Dragon breath is great for attacking and steel wing is superior for defending. If your Dragonite ends up with steel wing I would definitely still power it up and use it for gaining a good position in a high level gym. I would also prioritize powering it up if you get steel wing as a difference of couple hundred cp is neglible when attacking but can place you several spots higher when holding a gym.
Dragonite with Steel Wing ?
Hey guys,
I'm 12 candies away from finally evolving my Dragonair 93%. Now that the event is ongoing I put it as my buddy and I think I will able to get them really soon.
Now, I'm REALLY afraid about receiving Steel Wing. I mean, really. I'm crossing my fingers to get Dragon Breath (just that, i don't mind the other charge attacks as they are almost equally good), but seriously Dragon Breath is the thing on Dragonites.
Now, what happen if I get Steel Wing ?
Should I still invest on him or just leave it over there as if it were a Pidgeot ?

Couldn't agree more. I have evolved 3 dragonites, all of them have DB. I totally love them all, and they are my go to for most situations, but I was hoping at least one of them had gotten steel wing, purely for defense capability.
I will say that if there was a moveset I would be very very slightly disappointed about getting with dragonite, it'd be steel wing and dragon claw. I would totally still throw it in gyms, and it would always be super great regardless. But there'd always be a nagging in the back of my mind that as far as dragonites go, it would never truly excel at either offense or defense. Aside from that, all dragonite are perfect in one form or another.
Steel wing dragonite is a beast. Everyone will say dragonites aren't superior because of ice. Not many have good ice Pokemon, lapras is rare, the others have a chance of getting icy wind etc. Plus their team will be weak by the time they get to the top of the gym where the dragonites are.
I've trained against mine many times and it does not disappoint. No matter the moveset, you will have a use for dragonites.
"leave it over there as if it were a Pidgeot"
Srsly man what the fuck is wrong with you? You act like only 100% IV and perfect moveset count but I bet you're battling ability is lacking and you chose the wrong gyms to train and place your pokemon. The latter would give you far more success than any IV, move or Pokemon could ever give you!
