Let's stop B!tching about the new tier list.

I think GP did a great job coming up with a thoughtful list. People complain about "oh Dragonite Rhydon and Gyarados suck as defenders, blah blah blah. They shouldn't be in tier this and that". Look, the only great defender is the round pink egg. Snorlax is pretty good. The rest of the mons are almost equally easy to counter. So that means I rather have a high CP defender than a low CP defender. Take for example, Lapras. It was one of the best defender before Niantic killed it. Now look at it. It's only purpose now is basically for prestiging. The real great work from GP is the move set ranking. I'm sure that took a LOT of work to analyze instead of straight DPS.

well, I think they had little time.

it's a great piece of work. but has a few inconsistencies still, I think: HB is ranked poorly for Blissey as it is easy to dodge (DG is almost as easy to dodge...) but that's not a problem for Snorlax (with HB ranked above BS), Outrage is never penalized for being as easy to dodge as HB or SB (for example look at Gyarados with Outrage vs. Crunch), Golem and Scizor are not in the rankings while Umbreon and Clefairy are, etc.

nonetheless, I think u r right. it's a great reference, and either people choose to take it as their own reference or they dont. It serves its main purpose which is to help people who r not pros being able to choose which pokemon to power up or not, in a rational and data driven way.

Believe me, I had plenty of time. This was not rushed at all. Every decision was made deliberately and I am well-equipped to defend every single one of them.

We did not rank Hyper Beam lower on Blissey because it's easier to dodge. We ranked it lower because Dazzling Gleam is way more threatening to Dragonite, Tyranitar, and Machamp, 3 of the best attackers in the game.

Golem had 3 terrible matchups that invalidated its worth as a defender and not enough CP to make up for it. Scizor is actually just a very bad defender. Of the top 20 or so CP Pokemon in the game, Scizor is actually the -worst- defender. I don't know why people keep thinking that it's good.

My favorite part about this site is by far the moveset rankings for each individual Pokemon. I'm waiting on a few to see where the new moves stack up w/ the old moves. I also agree. I had some complaints about a few Pokemon but that list for the most part is pretty great. ( I also think Fighting types are underrated in general in the game ) I'm also excited to see what new attackers cracked the list besides Tyranitar. Can definitely say for sure this is the best site for content regarding this game.

Yes, love the moveset ranking that's not straight DPS determined. Eager to see the attack list.

I totally agree with you and respect the GamePress team for their hardwords. Their analysis is the best at the moment. Of course no one from GP nor anyone else out there can provide a one-side-fit-all solution for all players. PoGO is an interactive game: between one and other players (incl botters, spoofers...), his biome...
As I notice so far, all analysis on this site as well as on any sites is based on assumption of 1vs1. When you battle in group, a ZH/BS Snorlax is sometimes harder than a P/Psy/HB Blissey in term he can do more damage to your group than that pink lady.

Yeah, go place your poor Rhydons and Gyarados in the gym, and make the life easier for your opponents.

Not everyone has an army of Blisseys and Snorlaxes to put in gyms. So if I have a 3000 CP Rhydon or Gyarados it's going in the gym.

Your 3000 CP Rhydon and Gyarados has no words VS Vape and Magneton... Maybe all you know is putting Pokes on the TOP not Putting a TOUGH Mons who last long and makes attacker's headache to win...

I bet you your 3000CP Rhydon and Gyarados Die fast than a 1000+ Chansey.... Even using a counter attacker..

Dude or dudette. Blissey is the ONLY TOUGH mon who last long and gives headache to attackers and more so to prestigers. Every other mon is easy to beat, even snorlax if the trainer is high enough with good attackers. EVERY mon has a counter except for Blissey. I have two Blisseys. I do want to be in more than two gyms. An NO SH$T that a 3000 CP Rhydon and Gyarados will get wrecked faster than a baby Blissey (Chansey). So what is your point? There are no tough Mons other than Blissey. Vaporeon? I have an army of Vapes. Three of them are 100 IV and maxed. They are in gyms. Magneton? Haha. Yeah ok man. I'll put a magneton in a gym just for you.

Three maxed out 100iv vaporeons? Of course you can say that you have an arbitrary amount of 100iv vaporeons (to be convincing, less or equal than 1000 per account) in your argument. Let's assume it be true, then try not to give others the chance to collect evidence and report you to Niantic. Be careful of what you said, especially when you are agitated.

many players got a dozen of good vaps and jolteons, even 10 Gyarados or 10 Rhydons will be killed in no time.

If you position them next to each other in the gym, then they will actually be effective and force people to mix their team up and switch - just don't place your Rhydon between 2 other Rhydons.

The trouble is people don't build a strong gym line up that force a change. It is always something like Rhy-Rhy-Rhy-Garry-Garry-Garry- Dnite-Dnite-Blissey...which does make it all too easy.

This is totally the thing that is missing with how people place their mons! This is the reason that geera is actually great if placed correctly - it forces an attacker to waste one of their slots for an electric type which is generally not great against anyone else. especially in the case of solo attackers (groups can pretty much wreck anything anytime but not always easy to coordinate... ) the best that any gym can do is at least deter the casual passerby from hitting it unless they are willing to commit a lot of time and potions...

Life is easy even with Blissey's in gyms, they are just annoying, and I think you haven't read the explanations about why each of them is in the list. Yes, most of them have counters, but even against hard counters, they can deal a lot of damage to them if not thread carefully, and ALL DEFENDERS can be killed by a determined attacker,ALL OF THEM!!! Even Blissey, it's much more annoying for prestieging a gym than it is for attacking.

Everyone is so heavily armed and not afraid of any mons except that nurse. Take some time and all players will get a bunch of good mons with fight moves.

Some of the Top defender's list are very easy to kill...
Its not about who can stay on the TOP place.... It's about TOUGH defender who last long....

Up

Ummm. The only tough defender that last long is Blissey. Snorlax somewhat but not really. So what's your point?

Vapes and Lapras must be on the top than Rhydon and Gyarados... In my experienced as an attacker.. I can say I got difficulty dealing Lapras and Vapes than a Gyarados and Rhydon...

Flareon FS/OH and Arcanine FF/FB will wreck Lapras. Heck, even a dodging DB/DC Nite will destroy a Lapras faster than with an Arcanine. Oh wait, Lapras has disappeared from the gym meta. Well, I guess that's why Lapras is tier 3.

Eggy, Venu, and Tangey prey on Vapes. And Dnite is vapes pimp. You see? All mons got weaknesses. Even the big bad Godzilla is scared sh!tless of Vape and Champ.

I used to put my 28xx-29xxCP ZH/BS Snorlaxes to build strong gyms but then found my mons were kicked out of those gyms, replaced by those top CP pokemons. This pushes us (our team) to rush for high CP pokemons instead of strong pokemons.
Besides, after some adjustment from Niantic, no one is sure that his/her strong, well-invested (stardust) pokemons will not be nerfed in the next updates.
So unless you play in a team and your team are heading toward building and holding strong gyms, then you must accept this gym-game in all about TOP place, not TOUGH place.

I agree with the new tier list.
it is a nice breakdown of the individual values and roles of the ranked pokemon in the current gym metagame.

Thank you, guys!

Same... its nice to have a list. Thx for all the hard work creating it.

People only put Gyar, Rhydon, nite at the gym in my area. The best attacker will be jolton, Vap, Piloswine, Machamp. Dragonite attacker is not relevant. Lol

So what do you think of making another post with title "Let's stop B!tching about let's stop B!tching about the new tier list."? It seems that you are not aware that you are the first one who defining such discussions as "b***hing". I can only see these possibilities from your argument: "GP is absolutely authoritative, no one is allowed to disagree with them", or "Your opinion is different from mine, so at least I must beat you in words".

You clearly expressed my point of view. Thanks!
