Dratini - Should I evolve yet and if so which one ?

Just hatched another Dratini, and finally have enough candy (138 atm) to evolve my 2nd ever Dragonite.

So firstly...I still cant decide to evolve now/soon or wait.

Should I wait?...either for a better IV one and in case the whole 'save your candies' actually means something.

Anyway, I have one with fairly decent Ivs, and one with better IVs but is a low level.

Current two options:

Dratini: 473 CP - Lvl 20
12/14/13 - 87%

Dratini: 189 CP - Lvl 8
14/12/15 - 91%

So yeah, any feedback welcome.

TLDR: Basically....Is 87% Dratini IV good enough ? or wait abit for a better IV one.

And should I evolve now or wait just in case becus: 'save your candy' xD

Oh and btw, my only other Dragonite, is also a 87% one,
with SW/DC, lvl 30.

Unfortunately the Dratini I just hatched is only 82%, to go along with my several other 82 and 84 IV hatches :/. 87% is the best ive managed to get up to now.

This one
Dratini: 473 CP - Lvl 20
12/14/13 - 87%

cheers,

Its definetly the more realistic one, the 91% would require allot of dust and candy just to catch up.

maybe if it was 100% it would be worth.

Have you tried the part of the IV calculator that shows you the max cp of the potential evolved Dragonite?
It is a great "part 2" to the IVs.
Your 87, might actually have a higher max CP because its attack is higher than your 91.

hmmm, no ive not actually.

I kinda thought it was the Stamina that determined the max potention cp.

Time to run the numbers, I think it will help you find the answer of which mon. But it won't help you determine if now or later is the answer.

I had a look, the 91% has a higher potential, but the difference is not huge.

its attack stat is actually higher than the 87%, and its Stamina

at lvl 30 87% would have 3014 CP
at lvl 30 91% would have 3033 CP

I'm in almost the same boat as you, I just don't have enough candy to have to deal with the decision right now.

keep farming for the 10ks. Ive had 4 Dratini hatches in the past week.

Literally was on 4 candy before,

If you don't desperately need another dragonite and have other attackers, then I'd wait till we find out what this save your candy thing it all about.

IF (BIG IF) its like half price off all evolutions or something, then you may potentially save a lot of dratini candy. And if the move set sucks, you can immediately evolve another.

Thats true...

I didn't really think about the idea of being able to instantly evolve another after the first, due to it being halfed.

I was more thinking about powering up with the saved candy, but it could get a subpar moveset like you say.

I think its a big long shot, having a half the evolve cost..but you never know, and i suppose its worth to wait just in case.

Maybe i could even hatch a better IV in the meantime....Dratini are dropping allot more often for me in 10ks atm.

I recently also had enough candy to evolve another dragonite. I had the following choices:

lvl 30 dratini 82%
lvl 20 dratini 89%
lvl 22 dragonair 84%

What I did was used the IV test tool to find each of the pokemon and clicked the CALC CP button.

This allowed me to see exactly how much stardust and candy would be required to max out each of the dragonites to lvl 33.5 (im lvl 32).

It made much more sense to evolve the 82% and save all the candy and stardust it would have cost to bring the lower lvl ones up to max.

Plus, I already have a 100% Dragonite maxed anyways :P

Ya I was so lucky to catch an 80+ % dratini in the wild at lvl 30. Made the decision easy to save all that stardust and candy with powerups.
