Steel wing is actually better than dragon tail on offense?

Much easier to dodge with. Surely not as great as DB. But that makes SW/OT one of dragonites best currently available offensive movesets and B on defense imo.

No, SW is the best defensive moveset, mostly in the area where Shellders, Seels and Jynxes are uncommon, but without STAB. DT is another decent defensive moveset while with STAB, which gives an additional multiplier.

DT is better than SW on defense. On offense u can actually fit up to 3 SW's in between the opponents attack - depending on the opponent tho.

ok for dodging, i might be slightly better, but overall with stab and higher eps DT is the better move offensivewise

It all depends on what you value.

Taking the least damage on your pokemon
OR
Winning the fastest.

Dragontail is more energy and more dps meaning it's wholly superior to Steel wing in every way.

However, steel wing is faster and easier to use while dodging everything.

On defense, DT is even more energy and more dps than Steel Wing and even larger an advantage due to the way the Gym AI works. And when you factor in a lot of Dragonite counters have a water typing to resist steel the edge becomes larger.

yeah but than it would be db+dc (dodging) vs dt+out raw dps

Yes in theory higher dps and eps if you just spam attacks w/o dodging, but if you can only fit in one DT between every, say, watergun, SW is gonna provide more dmg and energy than DT.

Although i agree, DT is definitely superior on defense. However, id prefer SW/OR over DT/HB on defense.

Agree with the dodging part, but steel moves are pathetic on offense. It is unusable against fire, water, electric and steel (though not many defenders electric/steel). For cases it will be SE against (Ice, Rock), you wouldn't use a dragonite. The worst part is probably you can't take down another dragonite as quickly with steel moves!

Dragon moves are usable against everything except steel (not many defenders exist) and fairy (again no defenders exist), and you wouldn't use a dragon against a fairy in the first place.

There's no fire types in gyms either. It will be great against grass, normal, psychic - and if u have OR as charge move, its great against dragonites as well. Only serious drawback is NVE damage against water types.

Well so are dragon moves being good against grass, normal psychic...and DT/OR, DB/DC or any double dragon move combination is better against dragonites.

Fire types are still plausible in gyms. Flareon/Arcanine still hit respectable CP caps, and using a dragonite against them still works just as well, if not better, than a vaporeon, but it just doesn't work with steel wing.

yes against dragon types DT/OR n DB/DC are preferable movesets. But lets say SW/OR vs DT/H or DT/HB - i would definitely go with SW/OR in this case.

I for one am glad to add a SW/Rage to my dragonite lineup. There's a ton of rhydons everywhere... now I don't necessarily have to switch out and use a water mon.

STAB and Super Effective are the same multiplier, so in the Dragonite vs. Rhydon matchup, the type advantage of Steel Wing is a wash compared with STAB of Dragon Tail.

DT > SW
