When to Use a Special Item?

I'm currently holding three special items - Sun Stone, Kings Rock, and Upgrade2. What level IV should I wait for to use the items?

If I wanted, I could use all three on: (1) 89% IV Gloom, (2) 89% IV Poliwhirl, and (3) 84% IV Porygon. My instinct is to evolve the Porygon because I'm unlikely to get a better IV version, but to not evolve the poli & gloom because I'm likely to (eventually) get a better IV option. (I have a 96 and 93IV Poliwraths and a 93IV Vileplume).

Thoughts?

Personally, I'll probably hold off until the perfect setup - something like when I find a lvl 29-30 80% + in the wild.

Why? Because none of the evolved forms are very good. It's not like I need to use them, it's just for the Pokedex entry. So what's the rush? ;)

Now Im a super tight player that spent a couple hundred early on so I could capitalize on my high level for free later. Im at level 36.1 currently and have spent no money since Halloween. Anyways Im saving as many evolutions as I can for a double XP stardust event. Last double stardust/xp I evolved for over 5+ hours straight.
I suspect that 2nd gen evolution items will eventually become more common and you will definitely get more either way so whatever you evolve now you'll have more evolutions later.

2000 xp per and 120K+ per egg was pretty exciting but yeah it was a long process gathering evo material, sorting and organizing as well. I saved all my candies from the double candy event on Halloween so it was actually like getting 4K per evolution.

The answer is to just evolve what is exciting you to, none of them are game breakers in terms of fighting or defending gyms... unless you specifically love one of them. Bellossom and Politoed are weaker than their other evolves. I would definitely evolve the porygon depending on your odds of hatching or catching another. It's your most exciting evolve. I wish you the best!

I would say it depends on how often you see those pokemon, like you're probably not getting a ton of porygon, so you might as well evolve it. None of them are really going to be tremendously useful besides filling out your pokedex or just for putting interesting stuff in gyms, so I would personally go for it.

Depends on what you need.

Frankly, both politoed and bellossum are crap compared to the normal evolutions - especially now that poliwrath can get double-fighting moveset (and vileplume is one of the big grasses that's effective against vap/gary, as always). They are just 'dex entries - I would not be able to justify using either of them unless you've got ideal moveset versions of the normal evo (and aren't hurting for a second - if the double-fighting move poliwrath is as effective as I expect it will be, I would have a hard time doing a politoed until I had two good double fighting poliwraths, or a couple of good machamps).

On the porygon, yeah - you've got until gen 4 to get another upgrade and a decent IV porygon, so no stress.

IV matters for CP - CP only matter for defenders....none of these are defenders.

Even if you use these as defenders, the potential CP is so low they will be at the bottom of any gym you put them in.

Basially, the IV doesn't matter at all - except for maybe Porygon, and it will be a long time before that has a possibility to be relevant.
