Is Espeon useful as a defender or attacker?

Or is a alakazam/exegg the better psychic attacker choice?

I've fought 2 espeons in gyms so far and he hits really hard. They were sitting at the bottom and found Psybeam as his best defensive charge attack (comes fast and more often than FS or P). The other 1 had Futuresight, it hits also super hard but I found it easier to dodge.

As an attacker he can do the job pretty well.

I guess you want these movesets (only my personal preferences):

Offense: ZH/FS
Defense: C/PB

Espeon is a great attacker and I would rate it even slightly higher as Alakazam: you trade 10 attack for 20 stamina which is a good deal for a glass cannon.

Both are glass cannon attackers and awful defenders.
They will be dead before even releasing their charge move.

The best attacking charge move is Futuresight, and the best quick attack depends on whether you dodge or not. If you dodge, Confusion is better otherwise ZH. But as you SHOULD dodge with a glass cannon,
Confusion Futuresight is the best moveset.

I think you made a mistake there buddy.
If you dodge you want zen headbutt. If you don't dodge you want confusion.
In other words: best moveset it zen headbutt -- future sight because if you're not dodging with espeon/alakazam, you shouldn't be using them in the first place.

From my experience using Exeggutor, you can't attack twice between a majority of common defenders' quick attacks with either Confusion or Zen Headbutt while dodging. Therefore, the move that does more damage and/or generates the more energy is better. And that's Confusion.

Have you already tried to dodge one in two fast attacks? I sometimes use this scheme with my own slow fast attacks.

Yeah I do that too, but technically speaking, Confusion is better is you want to dodge every attack.

Unless you've got an Umbreon ready to go, Espeon with Confusion is a very painful defender.

On attack, with Exegg I often found his grass typing to be a liability. Psychic is good against Poison, but Poison is good against Grass.

As for Espeon vs Alakazam... couldn't really say. I don't currently have either.

I put my 2750 Espeon with C/P in gyms all the time. His CP is high enough that he's usually in the middle somewhere and he his hard. The attacker has to decided who he is going to devote to taking him down. He also has to spend time dodging or take a big beating.

Also, when the mon before him is beat it will take some time switching mons and that always allows my Espeon to get in a few free shots which I know hit hard.

Might not have a lot of hps but I know for a fact that Espeon throws a wrench into the mix when people are trying to set their attack team.

If they miss the dodge Psycic which comes very quickly now with the new change they will be in a lot of pain.

I have no.idea what the move sets look like, but is Houndoom a decent dark type attacker in Espeon with a dark moveset? Also, though it it's hard back, Muk with dark pulse kills quickly also. Just have to dodge the charge moves.

I think that alakazam is better attacker, because he have psicho cut.
ZH is very slowly to effective dodge.
