It was just a "performance" update, but a lot of people is saying that after it their battery drains faster and the performance has not improved much, I don't know if it is some kind of problem but at least for me it is true that my battery has seen its duration decreased while playing pogo, I have a OP3T, after this update it went from 5:30h aprox of gameplay to around 4:30h, still can play a lot but bothers me that they release a perfermance update just to make it worst for a lot of people, my phone is like 2 month old.

Other phones I have read they have higher battery drain while playing are Samsung s6 and Iphone 6 (read it on reddit).

Thanks for the info Meloscomo! I play on an iPhone 6 and the game is draining the battery like turning a faucet on. I don't even think it lasts more than 2 hours anymore. Although my phone is quite old and there are many other background updates/refreshes going on at the same time. Glad that I haven't applied the update yet. Probably take my 2 hours down to even less.

I'd advise anyone that hasn't already, not to update. It kills the battery even more than previously.

I have noticed the battery draining faster on all 3 of my devices but honestly any serious Pokémon Go Trainer out there should be carrying something like an Anker PowerCore.

I have a high capacity one and can go more than 10 hours playing and the phone never drops below 100%. Perfect for when sitting on the NYC septuple lure .

I suggest trainers invest in something similar of their preferred brand
