Tyranitar Battle Experience

Fought a 3k Tyranitar today using a Machamp on the first pass and a Vaporeon in the second pass. Moves are Karate/Cross Chop and Water gun/Hydro Pump respectively, both Level 30. Easier to destroy than a Dragonite IMO. In these fights I only dodged the charge moves.

This Tyranitar did have a less than ideal moveset (bite/fire blast) but even then I thought it would do better.

And the Vaporeon fight:

Tyranitar is well rounded but not as bulky as a Snorlax or Lapras. Fireblast is a minus. Btw if you don't mind sharing, is this in NYC? I feel like I've seen this same Tyranitar around lately

No this was in London, unless we fought the same one from a NYC/London spoofer :)

Lol Tyranitar is incrementally better than Rhydon and Golem as a defender. I would gladly pulll out my unused Water types such as Poliwrath and Starmie and mow them down.

Tyranitar is not a defender. Vaporeon with half the CP can kill it with ease.

Tyranitar is under the same category as Gyrados, power full attacker, horrible defender.

Gyarados is a little bit better defender now with DT/O before gen 2.

I don't see how. My 1800 Jolteon Thundershock/thunderbolt takes him out in 1,2,3.

Its Rhydon as a defender. but as an attacker its #2, behind Dragonite.

Bite / FB is probably the worst moveset for Tyranitar on defense. It would've been much better with Iron Tail + Crunch -- but the point remains that Tyranitar isn't a good defender.

Not sure if that moveset will help that much- Vaporeon resists Steel, Machamp resists dark. Will still probably do better than a bite/fireblast, but I doubt it can chew through half of either Machamp or vaporeon's HP.

Tyranitar is simply Rhydon on steroids. And less double weaknesses. Not exactly impressive.

Tyranitar's vulnerabilities (most notably Vaporeon) preclude it from being much more than a CP play in gyms. But it does have the highest CP of any available pokemon.

Poliwrath with any moveset (obviously except for Ice Punch) is good to attack it, resisting its attacks and hitting it back with super effective damage.
