Gyarados is useless now good job Niantic
I can't accept the fact that Gyarados is awfully weak, weaker even than Jynx and Kadabra offensively. Gyarados has one of the highest attacks in the game. His previous optimal moveset B/HP is worse now and there's no incentive to find 400 candies for an average pokemon. What do you think?
This inaccuracy in addition with the constant change of parameters makes me think that Niantic has no idea whatsoever of the Pokemon ecosystem, they just simply follow a few guidelines blindly. There is no room for competitiveness.

I thought you were refering to this, look.. the thing is these Pokemon like Haunter and Kadabra (and even Jynx) have pretty good ATK, almost as high as Gyarados himself and they might have a little bit better moves, but Gyara still has tons of def and HP (atleast compared to the other powerhouses)
I dont see myself attacking with Haunter rather than G.
The spreadsheet is interesting, but I believe GamePress will come up with a bit more accurate data. For example according to Nick's formula Piloswine has better cycle DPS with Ice Shard rather than Powder Snow which I dont think is true, Powder Snow generates crazy energy
When dodging everything, I think Bite pulls ahead because you normally can't fit 2 Dragon Tail attacks in between a defender's quick moves who attacks every 2 seconds. In this scenario you can use Bite 4x then dodge, whereas if you use 2x DT you'll miss the dodge. So, if you like to dodge everything Bite is going to perform better.
This is also the case for 2.5 and 3 second gaps in defender's quick attacks. So basically against most opponents you're going to have higher damage output while dodging with Bite than with DT.
This analysis also applies to legacy DB Dragonites vs those with DT.
I think the problem is your outlook that Pokemon Go is "competitive".
I really don't think Pokemon Go is/was/or ever will be "competitive" in the same way that they have tournaments with real $$ prizes for the trading card game or video games.
Nor like a FPS where you can win millions or those other real competitive games with people who compete as their full time jobs.
Pokemon Go is a casual Mobile App/Game.
Even if you were the BEST Pokemon Go player who can dodge like a computer or tap your screen without missing a ms, it doesn't matter because, if you were on the minority team, you still can't do jack squat...in gyms...
From this move change, last move change, and any future move/power changes, I think people really need to just get over that my old mon was the BEST and I am so hurt and Niantic are idiots, etc etc etc...
Maybe my views are harsh, but it's also a free app/game and I think with everything that's happened with the game, people just need to not think it's really supposed to be that competitive since there is very little skill in this game other than endless grinding to get higher levels.
The "BEST" gym people are people on a dominant team and VERY high levels. Being level 40 doesn't make you a better player and a lot of level 40s don't even seem to do gyms since they tend to value EXP more meaning more catches, evolve parties, spending real money on incubators to grind EXP, etc...
Agreed. However, at least 70% of pokemon go user base expect that pvps, trading and user interactions would be implemented in the future. That's mainly what keeps users (including me) playing. Should pokemon Go will never acquire a competitive touch, then catching pokemon is as good as playing Candy Crush.
I don't know where you get your 70% figure, but I know within my own circle that my brother stopped playing after he caught everything, my kids and spouse pretty much stopped after they caught most things and got tired of catching the same things. A lot of the youtubers I see don't even seem to do much gyms or collect 10 a day, etc...
It's easy to assume some magical "70%" figure expect this (PvP, etc) , but honestly, I doubt it's that high since the only people who will probably try to do PvP competitively are the hardcore people on here and reddit/Silph who analyze every move, etc...
I suppose my views are that this game won't ever be that competitive and if I wanted to play a competitive game, I could do the Pokemon video games or the card games or play competitive PC games to try to win real money.
I suppose I'm just stating that if you look at it from my perspective, Pokemon Go is doing just fine to appeal to a mass audience it was meant for, we all get upset with nerfs (I have 2 maxed Lapras so wasted tons of dust, etc...) But at the end of the day, expecting it to be what you want to keep you playing will probably just end up disappointing you since I don't think this is what the idea of the game was to begin with.
Most normal players would probably just end up spam clicking each other if PvP was ever implemented...
A lot of normal players are just overjoyed to catch that 23% IV cute Larvitar from the show sitting in Ash's backpack so I think the people who are intensely concerned with there changes/nerf, etc...are actually a very very small minority.
Remember that this game has literally hundreds of millions of people playing...A lot of times, you even see open gym slots and no one puts a thing down...I doubt people who spend money on the game worry much about any competitive aspect of the game when any gym can be torn down by a level 25 player solo...(Note the Blissey nerf and immediate change to quick moves)...
The 70% percent number is not magic, a youtuber named Reversal performed a poll on his Twitter and found this result. You can argue for sample accuracy etc but you can't tell me that players who would be thrilled with a more competitive style are a minority.
A more elegant solution would be to appeal to both casual and hardcore players. There is a plethora of solutions to do this . The real reason that Niantic does not appeal to hardcore players is because Niantic itself is not familiar with Pokemon in general. That's the reason you see open gym slots etc. Because almost all the hardcore players have stopped playing.
