How do you evolve Umbreon or Espeon WITHOUT the naming trick?

You walk the Eevee as buddy for 10+ km and then evolve it during the day to get Espeon or the night to get Umbreon, apparently.

This sounded farfetched (no pun intended) but turns out to be true.. who would wanna walk 10km with an Eevee, thats a pretty shitty move

It's not necessarily worse than leaving it as random imo. 10 km is not really that much, and you at least have a guaranteed Espeon/Umbreon in the end.

The Eevee also needs to stay as your buddy when you evolve it for it to work.

Thanks for confirming this for me, I was suspecting it. I went for a walk this morning to finish off my high cp/iv Eevee and when I hit 10k I put back Dragonite. Evolved Eevee when I got home and came out with a Vaporeon.

Thanks for the help but don't forget to leave evee as your buddy or you will not get what you want. I learned the hard way and had to start over again.

I found out the hard way, evolved like 20/25 eevees that i had spared (high cp/ some high IV) and none of them turned into Umbreon or espeon ... I thought i just had some really bad luck untill i read it
