Elemental Strengths and Weakness

E.G. Water does x1,25 damage on Fire and Fire x0,8 damage on Water.

My question. Is there a elemental typ move needed to gain the strength/weakness or just the pokemon typ.

Example if i have a water pokemon and i use a move which type is normal, does i get the damage bonus when i attack a fire pokemon or i must have to use a water type move to get the bonus?

And what about if i use a fire pokemon vs a water pokemon but i attack with a lighting move does it to x1,25 damage or the bonus is only count on the pokemontyp itself and not the move typ?

Hey LeOsTyLe,

To put it simply, how much damage your Pokemon RECEIVES depends on your POKEMON TYPE and the type of attack it's suffering.

How much damage your Pokemon INFLICTS depends on the ATTACK TYPE against the Pokemon Type of your opponent.

Example, imagine you have a Blastoise (Water Type Pokemon) and you're attacking a Charizard (Fire Type Pokemon). Water attacks like Water Gun and Hydro Pump get the x1.25 damage boost. However, if your Blastoise has an Ice Beam secondary move, it would actually suffer a x.8 loss in damage because Fire Pokemon are resistant to Ice attacks. Just because Blastoise is a Water Type Pokemon doesn't mean his Ice Beam will be stronger.

He actually picked a bad example because Flying pokemon are weak to Ice. Charizard takes Ice moves 1x, or .8 * 1.25. Also, Blastoise using a Water attack gains a 1.25x "same-type attack bonus" or "STAB" in all situations, so its water moves do 1.525x damage to Charizard.

Hey GofessorOak,

Hello again, hahah! I posted this before I read your response on the other post. You're right, I was forgetting about Charizard being a dual type Pokemon. I gotta look out for that and not assume single types.

Thanks again, you rock!
