Snorlax defense rankings
Wondering if Earthquake is really any worse than Body Slam. Two body slams with stab equals 100 dmg, same as one non-stab earthquake. Between each move on D there is a 2 sec window, so 7.12 total seconds for 2 body slams vs 6.2 secs for earthquake. I get that dodging twice could be harder than dodging once, but not much, and earthquake isn't super easy to dodge. I suppose earthquake is weak against Dragonite and Exeggutor, but they are pretty rare and usually guarding gyms I would think. At the same time it is 1.25x effective against 5 pretty common move types.

I think it's because on defense the pokemon generates much more energy from taking damage and thus can "spam" charge attacks if they're 3 uses. So Body Slam can get spammed pretty hard (and consecutive ones are really hard to dodge since they don't show text and often people will use their own charge moves immediately after dodging a charge), whereas Earthquake cannot be spammed on defense at all.
That said, as has been mentioned on other pages Snorlax' weakest move sets are stronger than most pokemon's strongest. Earthquake is still a great defensive move, just not his best. Heck, there's also intangible value in having a different move than expected, so Earthquake may work out because people aren't as practiced against it.
Well i fought 2 snorlaxes recently, first snorlax was able to use body slam twice, 2nd body slam just before it died.
If it would have been hyper beam, it would alrdy die before hyper beam = zero dmg done
Second snorlax was able to use hyper beam which i dodged = equals 2 body slams
Also it started firing second hyper beam but died.
= at least 1 extra body slam inflicted
even if i dodge all these, still body slam snorlaxes win.
because first snorlax wasnt even able to use hyper beam and second one couldnt finish his 2nd hyper beam.
You never know if the attacker has strong pokemons or weak pokemons, but one thing is sure, body slam suites all these situations. hyper beam doesnt cus it requires more energy for use and it has long long animation time.
While I think Earthquake is without a doubt his worst charge move, on both offense and defense, you have to keep things in perspective. A Snorlax with Earthquake is still better than most every other mon.
That being said, it's pretty clearly his worst charge move. Almost the same cooldown as Hyper Beam, without STAB, and 20 less dmg on top of it. So we know it's worse than Hyper Beam.
As far as EQ vs. Body Slam, you really can't underestimate that OP cooldown. 1.5 sec? Sheesus. It's basically a quick move that does 40 dmg. It's 50% faster than Bubble FFS!
What this means, which isn't easily measured on paper, is that it's really friggin hard to safely get a charge move off without getting creamed. With Snorlax's insane STA, he's going to be generating a ton of energy so he's a threat to go back-to-back or back-to-back-to-back Body Slams at any time. Good luck getting in a single bar move like Hyper Beam or EQ in this situation without having a few extra revives on hand!
Once I see EQ go off, I know it's safe to burn whatever charge moves I have - esp if he's got Lick as quick move
I would agree that it is his worst charge move. But again on defense, it would seem to me that it isn't so much worse that zen headbutt/earthquake would be rated worse than lick/any. Lick just doesn't do enough damage and if the opponent dodges the charge moves at all, snorlax can be pretty easily defeated.
