Question: do the new berries only provide their bonuses for one throw (like razz berries), or do their effects last for the entire duration of a pokemon encounter? Since they're pretty rare at the moment I don't want to use any of mine to find out. But it seems like it would be unfair if a pineapple only worked for one throw (i.e., if a pokemon broke out of a ball you'd need to use another pineapple to get the candy bonus).

They last only one throw, just like razz berry. They're displayed under the mon's name and CP while they're active, BTW.

Huh really? Cool. That display thing IS a new change right? (I don't remember seeing it in the past.) I have noticed that the color of the capture circle now changes after you apply a razz berry, which is kind of a nifty change.

Safe to assume its one throw. And all items are free so this may be why they chose to do it this way.
your best bet is to use your best ball, and of course try to aim for perfect or at least great.

doubling the amount of candy is surely worth the risk and cost

Siiiiigh guess it's time to practice with the new curveball mechanics.

Wait, did something change with Razzberries? Everyone saying they last only one throw.....

Maybe you just don't miss like me. But I find that Razz's last for as many throws as it takes to hit the mon. Then it's gone whether the mon breaks out or gets captured.

If the mon charges or jumps or the throw is a miss then a catch is not attempted, so the berry stays in effect - no changes there.

By lasting for one throw they mean one successful throw and hit. If you miss the throw or the pokemon knocks the ball away, the berry is still good. If you hit and it breaks out, you have to throw another berry. This has always been the case, it just displays whether or not you have an active berry now, and after each breakout you can now change your strategy and throw a different berry.

The way I am playing is:
-Use a pinap berry and an ultra ball for low level rare pokemon.
-Use a razz berry for higher level pokemon that I am afraid will run.
-Use a nanab berry for more common higher catch rate pokemon that jump around a lot and I don't want to waste too many balls on.
