Running a lucky egg while hatching or hoarding them and hoping for an event are the only reasons I've ever heard. I'd rather hatch mine right away though, in case it's something good. I imagine working out the timing with the lucky egg could also be tricky, if you want to also do other high experience things while the egg is going.
Why do people hoard 10k eggs for mass hatch?
I understand the XP angle during a lucky egg, but beyond that do people not understand RNG?

I hold to them if I think there could be an event close, I saved 8x10km eggs before halloween and got lucky enough there was a 2x candy event, got a Lapras with 50 candies and a Dratini with 48 candies, rest was crap but still worth it.
Now I only have one, but I am saving it in case there is a Valentine's event or an Easter one, I have no hurry, nothing left on the pokédex for me, and 2x candy or 2x dust could be an option at any point.
I have learnt to be patient the hard way, have lost so many rare candies walking buddies like Machop, Charmander, etc...So now I just try to be prepared for anything.
This game is hard on impatient people hahah, I can't imagine how much candies, time and dust I have lost evolving low level mons just because they have a good iv, like bulbasaur, abra or dratini, just too see later a higher cp and better iv one coming. But I have learnt a lot from my mistakes, I prefer waiting 4 months for an event than hatching 10k one by one, anyway I normally need 3-4 months to get my bag with 7-8 10k eggs. so why open them up instantly?
The only thing I would not do is sit at 9/9 eggs with nothing hatching, that is losing km's, the rest is just being patient.
Sorry you are mistaken. Double candy did not apply to eggs already in inventory. It only applied to eggs acquired and hatched during the event.
You can fact check this on youtube. Nick, reversal and ben all had 10k eggs at the start of both the Halloween and Thanksgiving events. Double candy did not apply double xp did.
That wasnt super clear but I meant double XP/dust applied to any eggs hatched during the Thanksgiving event but the double candy did not apply to eggs received prior to Halloween, only to those acquired and hatched during the event.
Did you even check? Sorry bud your mistaken on the double candy event. See clip below at 9:57. Ben hatches 6 10K eggs and no double candy.

If you read his TOP comment, he admitted he was wrong with the double candy comment and he just got unlucky with his rolls. Also, his Lapras hatched got 39 candies which is OVER the normal max of 32 candies possible...His Dratini got 59...
I copied it below...

GUYS. The info about the double egg candy was wrong I just thought my hatching seemed low but i just got unlucky with the amount, any egg is double candy!! Sorry

So bud, please check YOUR info before posting false info...
The thumbs down is because your comment is simply WRONG information.
Sharing wrong information contrary to the fact is bad and misinforming other people here...
That's all...
We all learn from each other and spouting wrong information doesn't help anyone.
Just READ his top comment. His video text is simply wrong and he admits and corrects it down in the comments section.
I do it because it's more fun to hatch more. Stupid perhaps, but that's the way I do it.
It's not like I have to have nine 10km eggs before I hatch them all, but I like to have atleast 3-4.
I've only use a lucky egg ones when hatching them and that was when I had seven eggs during that double XP event.
At this point, I am now hoarding candies for all common mons to do a mass evolve again for XP during a double exp event probably late in the year...(I read that Ingress has them once a year).
It's also a good idea to hoard 10km eggs "in case" double candy happens again since getting 64 candies for Chansey/Snorlax/Lapras/Dratini will save tons of time walking. I hatched my 10km last time during the event and got 64 Chansey candies (saved 160 kms walking!) and 50 Dratini candies...
It also takes me 3-4 months to get 9 10km eggs for me anyways so unless you spend coins on incubators all the time or have 10 gyms, saving for an event makes sense for non super high level 38+ people still needing candies and have limited defenders.
I suppose since hoarding 10km eggs due to their relative rarity in dropping to begin with makes sense to hatch them when you get a bonus for doing it for optimal play.
It's true for players who spend money or have tons of coins, just hatch away since you got more where that's coming from anyways...
The most I've gotten was 7...reason is I usually try to do my 10km eggs with a lucky egg and my 7 day streak for exp.
Since I'm sorta done with lucky eggs for now (lvl 31 and planning to buy the 25 egg pack next, but don't want it to take up all my inventory space), I expect to get to 8 unless some event makes me want to hatch them (have 5 now).
Yeah, you'd have to not hatch while trying to get a new egg if you want to have 9...
I think 8 should be pretty straight forward, but I'm picky where I pick up eggs so we'll see...
Since the candy was doubled, without the event, it would've been 32 candies (not really how it works I think since the doubling was really just a random number between 32-64 vs 16-32 normally) so the save was just the difference which was 160km...(sorta like if you don't use a lucky egg for an evolve, you'd still get the 500xp...just not 1000xp).
It's not a true double, so no way of knowing exactly how much walking you saved.
It's 2 rolls of the normal candy range, because during the event some hatches were Odd numbers of Candies (which would be impossible if it was a true double)
Though if the range maxes at 32, and you got 64, you sure got 2 maxed rolls so you got the only true double out there.
Exactly! Sure, Snorlax candy would be nice and I need an attacking Dragonite, for if gyms ever get competitive again.... In the meantime, it's a new challenge, exercise in patience, and reduces the number of incubators that I need to buy - and might pay off with double candy. Now time to go see if the RNG gods will smile on me for this next one....
The simplest answer is because it's fun and I like the thrill of hatching 9 10k eggs at the same time...
I know that it doesn't increase any sort of probabilities and I'd be better off constantly hatching eggs.
But having 9 of those makes it fun for me. I don't always do it but I do it once in a while. Whatever keeps the game interesting...
