Dragon pulse and dragon claw.
Hello everyone!
Congrats me! I got my first Dragonite :3
By the way, its iv is 93. The movesets is DB/DP.
I know the DC should be the best charge move, but how about DP? Why in gamepress it is introduced as a def moveset? Is it also good work for attack?
I am sorry this is the only Dragonite I have, so I cannot experience or compare in battles. Please be patient and give me some suggestions. Appreciate!

It is a superb attacker, being your only dragonite it would almost be a waste to use it as a defender.
DB/DP is a great attacking moveset on the best attacker in the game. DB/DP is is just an average moveset on an above average defender.
The only exception is if your area is completely CP dependent. Then it will net you the top spot in the gyms.
DB-DP is good for both attacking and defense, but not great for either. The longer cooldown on DP compared with D.C. leaves you open to missing dodges and the straight damage is also less. Between DP and HB, I actually prefer HB because you don't spend as much time using the charge move, and maybe just my experience but I can dodge more effectively with HB (one use per two uses of DP). If you time HB right you're exposed to just as many attacks as DP cooldown.
Overall, still a good moveset. You can use this Dragonite effectively for both attacking and defense. I prefer to leave my DB-DP ones in gyms as defenders.
In what universe is the 5 second cooldown of HB shorter than the 3.6 second cooldown of DP? Or are you thinking more along the lines of how long it takes to use a full bar's worth of energy (in which case, two DPs do indeed take more time to cast than one HB)? Even assuming it's the latter, I would still think that DP is easier to dodge with, especially if the defender has a 1 bar charge move - you just time your DPs for right after a defender uses its charged move, no?
Steel Wing / Dragon Claw is pretty good. Similar to Body Slam, Claw's low cooldown allows it to hit quickly and is more difficult to dodge than HB or DP in my opinion. While it's still the lowest Defensive DPS charge move for Dragonite, it's far from worthless and if/when critical hit chance is ever implemented the 25% crit will be awesome for Claw.
I honestly think because of its quick STAB damage, difficulty to dodge, and future potential for a major buff with crit chance, Claw is the second best defensive charge move for Dragonite.
Ive actually powered it up just tonight, not sure why, i guess i just came to the conclusion..that it is good...not the best, but still good.
And i waited so damm long to evolve that dragonite, its gonna be ages before i can do it again
(and even then i got to hope for a specific moveset)
I value the huge cp anyway as a defender so i can try and hold as many gyms for longer periods, right now i use a 2.8k gyarados for the role of sheer cp/gym placement.
SO i have hope about what you say, in relation to crit. Maybe one day they will add crit and suddenly i have the best defender dragonite ! xD
IMO, a Dragonite's purpose is defined (even more so than most mons) by it's quick move.
If you have Steel Wing, it's better off being a defender because Steel Wing doesn't do nearly the same amount of damage as Dragon's Breath (owing to it's cool down and lack of STAB), and doesn't build up energy nearly as quickly (nearly 50% slower).
If you have Dragon's Breath, you're best off using the Dragonite as an attacker because it will not be very good as a defender since Dragon's Breath is primarily dependent on its frequency rather than power to produce damage, so if the AI only uses it's every 2-3 seconds, it won't do nearly enough damage overall.
To be honest, you can get away with just spamming Dragon's Breath as an attacker and not even use the charge move and the Dragonite will still be an effective attacker. Of course, if you fit it a charge move here or there it helps, so DC > DP > HB since that's in the order of cool down (and thus they can be used more frequently/safely).
So I personally let the quick move determine what role I'm going to use the Dragonite in, and then let the charge move dictate how excited I am to power it up. My top attacker, btw, is also DB/DP and while I'd prefer he had DC, DP has worked well enough for me.
That´s exactely what I´m thinking. SW is for defense, DB for offense. There isn´t really a bad moveset for Dragonite, that´s the beauty of it! The only other Pokemon with this luxury to not really have a fail moveset is probably Exeggutor. If it´s your first Dragonite you certainly prefer to have one with DB. I just evolved my third one and it got DB/DP and I´m curious how it will perform in comparison to my other one with DB/HB. I´m expecting similar results in taking down Vaporeons.
