Dragonite problems
I've been lucky enough to have quite a few dragonites pop up on my small one way road. The problem is I can't hit them, maybe 1 out of 20 balls will hit. The circle is very high and and at the max distance. The ball just doesn't go that far. It doesn't sound bad, but when using 60 ultra balls in a row it's infuriating. I try ar mode and bring his head to the bottom of screen and it helps a bit. Any one else know a solution, tip? Girlfriend even stopped going for them cause they use all her balls.
Side note: I read they pop up in golf courses, this may also be true;but there are quite a bit in the mountains. Not a single dratini or dragonaire though

I was going to suggest AR mode...try some different styles. I generally don't curve the ball, but you can get curved balls to go further. Also, if you have a screen protector on, take it off. My wife's phone had a screen protector and we couldn't get close. I took it off and nailed it the first try.
I had the same problem, Lapras and especially Dragonite are near impossible to reach, that L technique doesn't work, you wont get enough velocity, what I found works is centre the ball in the middle of the screen and then pull it down right to the bottom and then shoot it up the top of the screen and end with a flick of the finger, if you use the tip of your finger partially using the fingernail this helps, my phone sony xperia z3, seems to be terrible for registering the speed of the throw, I took the screen protector off and this helped a bit. try practising on some other flying pokemon like pigeots and golbatts. and don't bother with ultraballs, I find there harder to throw further, like the better balls are heavier to throw, its even more difficult throwing far with a great or ultra ball. I did the same and burned through all my ultra and great balls, when I was down to just regular pokeballs I hit it.
I find "rocking" your finger forward and backward to warm it up before you throw helps for some reason. I don't know if it helps with the game or helps mentally with me, but when I throw from a standstill at the bottom I can never quite get the speed/distance.
Keep in mind, though that Dragonite is always going to eat a bunch of your balls. They put him that far back to make you miss some and then gave him the lowest catch rate in the game. So it's by design.
Yeah I expect the low catch rate for sure, but physically not being able to hit it is another level of frustration. Say 8 or 10 dragonites using 50 balls minimum each, and berries. without even knowing if they have a different moveset than what I have, and they may run off. Plus the closest poke stop is a 15 drive.
Are you speaking from experience about rocking your finger?
