Weak(ish) pokemon.

What are you guys doing with pokemon like sandshrew, pikachu, ekans, seel, shelder, gastly, horsea (well, now everybody grinds for the Kingdra, but before we knew gen 2 is coming) and stuff like this? Some of them are utterly useless, some may have a potential use as prestigers or attackers even, but even is thats the case, there is always someone better. So, do you grind the candy for whatever reason, or u just mass evolve all the aforementioned for exp and don't bother saving candy?

It depends on how common they are. Sandshrew is rare near me, so I go after him. For common Mon, I go after high CP for a potential evolver/prestiger or low CP for easy candy. If they are mid-strength, I ignore.

Pikachu and Ekans are the most useless of that bunch. Jolteon is really easy to obtain and better than Raichu.
You can use Arbok for prestiging what? The rare Wigg, Clefable or Tangela? Nope.

The other can be good prestigers. Cloyster and Dewgong have those rare Ice attacks because not everyone have one or two Lapras to use.
Gastly, if you aren't interested in a good Gengar anymore, only evolves with 25 candies so good for exp. But depends on where you live it could be rare. I always catch them as well as any other 'mon who evolves only with 25 c, just for the exp, trying to get to level 30

How well would Arbok with double Dark moves work against Gengar for prestiging?

Probably decent, but a Lick Snorlax with fitting CP would be superior by far.

Ekans is essentially useless.

Sandslash makes a pretty good prestiger so Sandshrews are evolved.

Seel tends to be evolved then used as a disposable prestiger.

I've tried to find a good use for Gengar, but I'm struggling. I tend to only bother catching low cp Ghastly.

Seandra with the right moves is a good prestiger, but as with most people it's saving candies for Kingdra.

Cloyster isn't a bad prestiger, but shellder are so plentiful, I don't normally revive the Cloysters

None of those you mentioned, apart from Arbok, are really useless. I use all of them quite often, especially as prestigers, plus Cloyster and Dewgong are also amazing dragon slayers.

None of them, apart from Ekans again, are really common where I live either, so I always try to catch them, even though in most cases I've already got their evolutions with the right moveset.

I live in an area with lot of pokestops, so i can get lots of pokeballs. In my case, i capture evry mon i see, just for the dust they give, but if i didn have these pokestops i would do the same, skipping all these pokemons. And I just keep the >90%, i dont know if someday they will be useful.

I actually like Sandslash a lot...Having a fast quick move like mud shot is more fun to use for prestiging vs Rhydon or Golem with their slow Mud Slap.

Sandslash also generates 50% energy faster than Rhydon with Mudshot so I am trying to get more ground prestigers for the occasional Jolteon which does show up.

He's also good against Rhydon/Golem due to ground being SE AND STAB and resistant to rock attacks if they use Rock Throw (Golem) or Stone Edge...

They also have decent HP in the prestige range of 1000-1200 making them very useful, not to mention you don't have to waste your Rhydon candies to evolve non-high IV mons for gym defense...

TL:DR - They are rated 8/10 here and good to prestige with due to needing to dodge and the quick move is faster than Rhydon/Golem so more fun, easier dodging...

I grind them for dust, and keep the candy. I have several species that if they were magikarp, I could evolve a couple Gyarados. Mass-evolves for XP are pretty boring, and after lvl 30, I'm not concerned about leveling up. I do care about powering up specific mon and generally improving my collection for attack, prestige and defense. So, I only evolve to further those ends, now. I catch all kinds of low cp mon for efficient ball use, high cp if I think they might be useful, and mid cp, if I want to practice my curve balls.
