I saved up enough pokecoins to buy the ultra holiday box. In it was 16 lures. I just finished using them all up, most of them were during the extended-time lure event.
The rarest pokemon I encountered was 1x grimer, 2x growlithe, and 1 exeggecute.
Not gunna lie, I was pretty dissapointed.

I'm just wondering, is there any success stories out there with lures or are they completely useless?

You should basically only use coins on incubators, everything else is a trap.

I mainly do, and the rest for bag upgrades.
The lures just came with the package.

They should at least make the Pokestops give more rare items/ eggs with a lure on them.

Well, instead of buying those packages you could've stocked up on the incubatir boxes from Christmas time, or just bought incubators.

Idk, tomorrow is a new day.

A couple of months ago I got a Lapras from someone else's lure, but generally I get nothing but Pidgey/Rattata

A friend of mine got a lapras aswell from it in London. Best i found were 2 dratini and a rain of magickarp, again in London. Imo is heavily dependant on location aswell. As for the little town i live in, they are utterly useless. Only plus is i meet some new people with then. As for the " anything beside incubator is useless " tbh eggs shoulds be a must and incense is fairly insane if you can use it properly. Tested myself. On a bike i easily got 28 pokemons to spawn in 30min several times. Never insane stuff but lot of useful uncommon ones, so in the end is about how you use them. Even though, with cold aint rly the best huh...

Lures/Incense are useless.

Item and mon storage are good too...in addition to incubators.

If you prestige gyms a lot, having the right prestige team is critical...I recently did 8k in 10 minutes which is very fast for me...(easiest tend to be fire types like flaeron (low HP))...a harder gym took me 15 mins so the 1k+ prestige certainly made things TONS easier.

I've only used Lures once and then I only got Rattata, Pidgey and other common ones.

I have never used my own lures because I have been disappointed by anything I see on other people's lures.
I see them more as a social tool to declare your presence in an area and attract other players to where you are than as an actual way to get mons you couldn't otherwise just find in the wild. Think of them as luring other gamers, not luring mons.

So I sometimes hit a spot near me with 2 other players. Prior to hanging out with them, they said during the first couple of months of the game's release, a lot of people (5-7) would lure together. They said they noticed that when at least 5 people were around, a 'good' spawn would occur (e.g. Venusaur, Niodqueen, & Vileplume). Maybe there's something to do with the number of players near a lure and the outcome? Probably not, who knows

I've gotten a snorlax once, but that's the only 'good' mon.

I saw people encountering Lapras and Snorlax in Lure, but I never have a chance to encounter that. My best lure encountered are Aerodactyl, dewgong and dragonair. I guess lure is just something for people to grind for more stardust and exp.
