What would you power up next??

Hi everyone,

So I've try to play by 2 simple rules:
1. Only power up a pokemon to level 30
2. Only power up 90+ IV pokemon - with 2 exceptions below
(I get that differences in IV are miniscule but I couldn't help it =) Its aesthetically pleasing to see a team of 90+ IV pokemon)

I live in a densely populated city with a lot of active players. Gyms rise and fall every 5-10 mins. I usually can only collect 10 poke coins. Sometimes if I'm lucky and work fast, I might be able to take a 2nd gym and get 20 coins. Very early on I had a 96% dragonite SW/DP that I used to power up and put into gyms to try and hold it but I soon learned that it didn't matter. It would be taken down in minutes regardless. As such, I gave up on powering defensive pokemon for the longest time and focused on powering my good attackers to take gyms down. Used up quite a bit of stardust trying to keep to my rules above. Recently, I've noticed gyms could hold a little longer. I'm not sure if its just the hype dying down a little. So, I was wondering if I should stick to powering up attacking pokemon or start powering the defensive ones. I'll show you what I have.

Attackers level 30:
CP 3036 Dragonite 91% DBHB
CP 3027 Dragonite 87% DBDC (caught at level 29 so I powered it to 30)
CP 2848 Snorlax 91% LHB
CP 2794 Gyarados 96% BHP
CP 2701 Vaporeon 98% WGAT (doubles up in defence)
CP 2500 Lapras 85% ISIB (doubles up in defence)
- Lapras too rare, may never get a 90+IV so I powered it
CP 2480 Exeggutor 96% ZSBeam

Attackers below level 30 (with a few 89% with good moves):
CP 2263 Rhydon 100% RSSE (only for Snorlax killing)
CP 2244 Gyarados 98% BDP
CP 1984 Jolteon 98% TST – Lvl 25.5
CP 1776 Vaporeon 89% WGHP – Lvl 20
CP 1646 Machamp 98% KCCC
CP 797 Dragonite 89% DBDP
CP 755 Snorlax 98% LBS

Potential defenders to power up?:
CP 2546 Dragonite 96% SWDP
CP 2133 Dragonite 96% SWHB
CP 1813 Exeggutor 91% COSeed
CP 1803 Exeggutor 91% COPsy
CP 1697 Vaporeon 89% WGWP
CP 850 Snorlax 93% ZHBS

I'm level 29, with 92K stardust and 100 snorlax candy. I'm not sure if its any use powering up the 2546 dragonite because just about everyone would have a Cloyster/Lapras somewhere to take it out. I was saving up to power up the CP850 Snorlax 93% ZHBS and should hit my required target in the next 1-2 weeks? Then last night I caught another Snorlax 98% LickBS but with CP755. =(

Should I power up the ZHBS Snorlax first or go for the LickBS Snorlax? I understand its a question of whether I want to use it for attack or defence, but seeing as I've got a decent range of attacking pokemon at level 30, maybe I should go with the ZHBS snorlax. Would anyone even bother pumping up the LickBS Snorlax? I love my Lick HB snorlax btw.

The Snorlaxs are likely to be the toughest defenders regardless of moveset, in that they take longest to kill. Lick/BS isn't as good a defensive move as ZH/BS however they'll probably still take longer to defeat than any of your other options.

The Co/Psy Eggy's make good defenders as will your Vaperon. Obviously if you need high CP defenders Dragonites come into their own in that role.

On the offensive side i would invest in the TS/T Jolteon to at least level 30. Jolteon is the prime attacker into Gyarados and secondary attacker into vaporeon and lapras, three of the most used defensive pokemons.

Please tell me you invested in a lot of incubators? I got no where near any mons you have at your level...

Only 10 coins a day with a squad like that? I wish I had that kind of actual money to spend on incubators because I would group this under “first world problem”. You could literally power up the worst of this whole group and it would be dominant and yes I am jelly, very very jelly…..

I would max out Dragonite SW/DP
96% Exeggutor C/P
93 Snorlax ZH BS

Starting by Snorlax then Dragonite, then Exeggutor. And jolteon for attacking

I would wait for higher lvlandorIV Vaporeon

When I saw your initial rules for powering up, I thought: "Yep, another guy with 1 million stardust laying around because he's too picky". Then I noticed you have the whole set of elite pokemon with 90%+ IV and the right movesets.

How many eggs hatched do you have? I'm soon lvl 32 and I'm having issues finding use for my 850k stardust because none of my pokemon with 80%+ IVs get good movesets. Most of my attackers are 60-80% IV with good movesets caught at high levels, and some of them have seen some stardust too.

The Snorlax is a no-brainer imo. I powered a 933CP Snorlax with the exact same moveset and 71% IVs to 2798cp, and he's a beast. Exeggutor C/Psy might be worth it if the gyms in your area aren't too CP-competitive. There are lots of others on the list worth some dust too, for sure.

Just checked, 170 hatched eggs. Never bought any incubators with real cash, did use my gym earned poke coins to buy incubators though.

Eevees, magikarps, eggs are everywhere aren't they? Not difficult waiting for 90+IVs? I'm down to only a few 80+ IV Eevees left which I'm saving for gen 2. Problem is some of the 90+IV I had were really low. The 98% vape and the 98% gyarados started at level 1, the 91% snorlax and the 96% Sw/DP dragonite were level 8 I think =(. But I couldn't help it.

I'll be the first to admit I have had some luck with 10k eggs. At least 2 of those are hatched dratinis, 1 hatched lapras, 1 hatched snorlax, 1 chansey, the rest were scythers and onixes. Never hatched a pinsir or eevee. Now that I've said it out loud I probably jinxed it.

Pretty insane...you must live near a Dratini spawn point (oceans) since I have 0 Dragonites still and hatched more eggs than you have already...

The RNG can be kind I guess...

The canal behind where I live spawns dratinis pretty regularly. And when I first started out playing, I used to go to this mall that was by the sea. Lots of pokestops/lures/players playing, so I did catch a lot of dratini there as well as my first lapras.

Sounds like pokesniper to me. Well no point to discuss.
