Exeggutor with Zen Headbutt/Psychic, should I spend dust on him ?

Hey guys,

I got a 87% Exeggutor with Zen/Psychic. I was expecting to evolve it to Zen/Beam but well, its really hard to find that combo.

Now, should I start leveling up ? I read on many sites that is the 2nd best attacking moveset for the Exeggutor and one of the best attacking Psychic movesets in the game.

I don't know what to do since I find it hard to get Exeggcutes with good IVs, and then I have to be extremly lucky (1 out of 6) to get Zen/Beam.

On the other side, I already have a 93% Victreebel with Leaf/Beam and a 91% Tangela with Whip/Beam for destroying Water 'mons.

So, what do you think about this Exeggutor ? Should I start leveling up and spend dusts on it ??

Thanks!!!

First and foremost...what level are you right now?

I'm on lvl 25. I have had this Exeggutor for a while already, but never really maxed it out.

Now I want to have a maxed out Exeggutor but I don't know if i should max this one out or just keep waiting until I get another Exeggcute with good IVs and then be extremely lucky on getting Zen/Beam.

Btw, I'm not interested on a defensive Exeggutor. I know there are like 3 better movesets for defending than this one.

Tough call. As someone who has evolved 16 Exeggutors and has yet to get a Confusion/Psychic, I'm going to remind you that it could take a long time to get the moves you want.

ZH/Psychic is still his 2nd best attacking moveset and certainly isn't bad. In fact, it's awesome and is the best psychic moveset in the game. But unless you're having trouble beating gyms, I would save your dust until you're level 28+ (when you can take Pokemon to 30) to make a decision.

Personally, I spend > 95% of my dust on defenders and rarely ever power up attackers simply b/c I haven't seen a need. Beating gyms is easy with the right team, and I'd rather evolve random IV lvl 30 Pokemon and save the dust. (Exceptions when you need a very specific moveset. I powered up my Frost Breath/Blizzard Dewgong, my Mud Shot/Earthquake Golem, and my Spark/Thunder Raichu since they're rare and fill a specific role)

Defenders on the other hand won't be able to stay put very long if they're at the bottom of the food chain.

I have a 2666 Exeggutor in a level 10 gym by me and I'm the 2nd to last defender. Won't take much to knock me out.

TL;DR - It's a great moveset but you may find spending your dust on defenders is more valuable since attacking is so easy

The short answer is Yes, as a specialized Psychic attacker, it's the best Psychic attacker, you shouldn't be looking at just the overall DPS, when you are using a Mon in a Gym battle, you are looking for type advantage, so if you are using a Psychic Mon, you want both moves to be the same type, even if it's not the highest DPS in a vacum, you are getting extra damage for the type advantage.

Thanks man. I needed that comment.

And yes, was about to follow the same logic. I really don't need Solar Beam on my Exegg since I already have a really good Victreebel and Tengela with the best grass movesets. So basically having an all-Psychic attacker Exegg would be the best suit for me.

Now, I was looking at that link. How come Golduck is a better all-water attacker than Vaporeon ??

Golduck is in no way a better attacker. He just has +8 attack stat over vaporeon making him the best water DPS (by a very slight amount). While vaporeon has a +120 stamina stat higher than golduck which is huge. That list just focuses on dps and not overall performance, which is why Vaporeon is rated 9.5 and Golduck is only 8 on the main list.

Yup, like using a Parasect with X-Scissor instead of solar beam to beat up on Exeggutors. Sure, it's not his highest DPS moveset when just crunching theoretical numbers on a spreadsheet but when you know what types of Pokemon you're going to use an attacker against, it might change the moves you want.

It's also the reason I prefer Dragon Breath on Gyarados. I don't see the value in using him as a weak Vaporeon, and would rather him be more versatile and able to stand up to Dragonite.

I wouldn't power it up. What good does psychic/psychic do you against the meta? Poliwrath would be the only gym defender it would do well against, but even then, Poliwrath's have low max CP, so you wouldn't need to spend much dust on the Exeggutor to secure the easy victory. I'd save the candies and try to get a one with confusion (defender) or solar beam.
