Atk/def/Sta explained alittle more in depth plz?

Ok I've been following my Pokemon IVs for a while now and understand the basics and keep anything above 80% For defenders. Don't care as much for attackers as i use them for prestigers as well.

Anyway..

I am clearing out some storage and want to know if certain IV are better for attackers and better for defenders.. I assume a 15 atk is better for a attacker and a 15 def is better for a defender but stamina is where i get alittle lost.

So i know ultimately move set will determine whether or not a Pokemon is a attacker or defender for me.. But I'll give an example below and maybe someone can help explain.

1 Bulbasaur cp750 IV 80%(12/9/15)

2 Bulbasaur cp730 IV 80% (15/8/13)

Maybe not the best example.. But would you keep #1 over #2 if you were shooting for a defender Pokemon? If not why.

Hopefully i made sence and you can explain what to look for.. Thanks.

atk is more important in terms of cp, so #2 would be better if you values atk a lot. High IV of a certain attribute does not mean a pokemon is a good attacker or defender since IV only affects the real value of atk/def/sta very small. If you are looking for good attackers/defenders, you should look at their moveset first.

Agree. I believe iv's is just an additional 1-15 value to the base stats of the pokemon. Movesets should matter more considering the rarity of that mon in your area. Iv's maybe just a criteria in evolving or powering up mons or a bonus points (if that mon is rare).

Are you really running out of space? I would suggest keep them both for now because you dont know their final moveset yet unless you evolve them.

In my case, bulbasaur are very rare for me. Thats why im keeping all bulba which are above 80 regardless of the iv distribution. Whenever i get enough candies for 1, i evolve it and check the moves. Regarding clearing space, because i keep mons above 80iv, i transfer evolved mons with useless movesets. With useless mons like fearow and the like, i just a few of them for the sake of having them in my poke storage.

The way I understood it attack is the damage the Pokemon dishes out and defense the damage it suffers. So it applies to attackers and defenders I think.
But in the example you give the difference will be pretty minimal I guess.
If I am evolving and hoping for a defender I always use the CP calculator and go for the one that will give me the highest CP as that seems in practice to be the most important factor for a defender. And ironically that is often the one with the highest attack.

Without wanting to give mathematical details i can provide a rule of the thump:

The IV value, that boosts the weekest stat (and thus provides the highest relative (percentual) increase) is most important.

Two examples:

Cloyster has moderate Att-, very high Def- and low Sta- stat. Most important is a high Sta-IV, followed by Att, while Def is least important.
A Sta-IV of 15 gives 15% more battle performance (damage delt until pkm faints) Att-IV of 15 gives something like 9% Battle performance, a Def-IV of 15 gives less than 5%.

Chaneira has a very low Att-Stat, Def is moderate, Sta is huge. Here Att-IV is most important; Att-IV 15 gives 25% battle performance, Def 8%, Sta only 3%.

Besides the examples worth noting is, that Att is fully wighted in CP-Calculation, Def and Sta only square rooted. So Att-IV has almost always the greatest impact on CP (with all consequences for gym-Placement and Prestiging)

Thanks for this.

So in very basic terms it is kinda on a per Pokemon basis?? Depending what they are weakest at?

If a Pokemons stats are weak in stamina then you would rather have a 15/0/15 then a 15/15/0

And if the Pokemon is weak in defense you would rather have 0/15/15 than 15/0/15

But if your just going for highest CP... 15/0/0 is better than 0/15/15

Did i pretty much understand than on a basic lvl?

Is that correct?

Basically, it seems to be correctly understood.

Please read here to get more detailled information.

But if your just going for highest CP... 15/0/0 is better than 0/15/15

it is correct, but only if att-stat is the lowest; then 15/0/0 gives even higher cp than 0/15/15.
Almost always 15/0/0 gives more CP than 0/15/0 or 0/0/15

Please read the links, there you find all information and formulas to do the calculations for yourself.

The CP calculation is essentially the pokemon's Atk stat multiplied by a pseudo-average of Def and Stm stats multiplied by a constant for the pokemon's level. For most pokemon, IVs of 15a/0d/0s and IVs of 0a/15d/15s will produce very close CP numbers in the middle of the pokemon's min-max CP range.

You can play around with the CP calculator to see how much different IVs affect a certain pokemon.
