PVE Offensive Moves Explanation

• Air Slash is superior to Feint Attack for raw power and STAB.

• Future Sight is a powerful move and ideal on Xatu due to STAB.

• Aerial Ace is slightly more powerful than Ominous Wind, but Ominous Wind’s Ghost-type effectiveness can be useful.

PVE Defensive Moves Explanation

• Air Slash does more damage, but Feint Attack has coverage against Ghost-type. Both can be considered.

• Ominous Wind is slightly superior to Future Sight due to low charge time and counter coverage.

• Aerial Ace can be considered for its damage potential due to low charge time.

• Future Sight is not suitable on Xatu due to its poor defensive stats.

PvP Moveset Explanation

Air Slash or Feint Attack + Aerial Ace and Ominous Wind or Futuresight

Air Slash and Feint Attack feature identical stats, the former benefits from STAB while the latter provides coverage. 

Aerial Ace benefits from STAB, and while not the most efficient charge move, is the most accessible. Ominous Wind can still be used for its coverage, despite being nerfed following the April 2020 rebalance. Futuresight deals the most damage with STAB, though 65 energy is a lot to ask for. 

PvP Rating Explanation

Great League: 1 / 5

Xatu seen its use in the Silph Arena's Nightmare Cup in 2019, but its fragility and unimpressive moveset leaves a lot to ask for. Wins against most Grass Pokemon and certain Fighting-types are to be expected, but other Pokemon can fulfill this role better. 

Ultra League: 0/ 5

Xatu has a max CP of 2188, which is inadequate for anything outside of Great League.

Master League: 0/5

Xatu has flown far from the coop of the Great League, best fly back!
