I‘m planning on going in with 3 Piloswine (1 Podersnow/Stone Edge, 2 Ice Shard/Avalanche), all relativ high levels thanks to weather, a high level Walrein with Waterfall/Blizzard (might consider switching to Frost Breath though), a Frost Breath/Blizzard Lapras, and last my only Kyogre with Blizzard. As packup I‘d count my three Rock moveset Golems
Your Rayquaza line up
Since Gamepress didn't release the optimal counters for the upcoming new raid boss so far, it provides us a nice opportunity to discuss your upcoming line up for Rayquaza.
I'm going with:
- Jynx (FB/IP)
- Lapras (IS/IB)
- Dragonite (DT/O)
- Cloyster (FB/A)
- Piloswine (PS/A)
- Golan (RT/SE)
I like variety, but in all honesty these are mostly Pokemon I have from the old days and I don't think it's necessary to power up anything special for Rayquaza due to its low defensive stats.
What are your thoughts on your line up and how will you exploit its weaknesses?

Walrein FB/B
Walrein FB/B
Cloyster FB/A
Gardevoir C/DG
Dragonite DT/O
Golem RT/SE
I have other spare parts such as several more RT/SE Golems and a PS/A Piloswine, but usually i will use these 6.
Sorry i don't have a powered up lapras because i can't seem to get one with an ice charged move and with good ivs. Also i don't like using Jynx, and i only have one jynx with confusion/draining kiss. Could care less about TMing it.
If it has ancient power then Piloswine, 4 Golems and a Gardevoir.
I'm really worried for the health of your low-level Jynx. I fear they are going to get annihilated before they can do anything, especially since Rayquaza does not have a single-bar Charged move, so it's going to be going off All the Time in large groups. I know they have the highest Ice DPS, but dead Pokemon don't do damage.
That's a good point, I might use them as sacrificial decoys. (I honestly think I can do a week of Rayquaza raids using transferrable cloyster jynx walrein or piloswine)
However Jynx is also the one (other than cloyster) to enjoy a 2 bar goodness of avalanche, with the powerful frost breath, so the fact that Jynx will be dead very quickly is counterbalanced by this advantage. I will also test some results with cloyster and see if it can survive the Rayquaza multibars.
They aren't so low level though too? They're around level 30-32
RE: low level. Technically, you are correct. 30 tends to be the reasonable threshold for most attackers (though I think yours are falling short of that, depending on IVs). However, they do top out at around 2500, so the CP might *seem* lower than it actually is relative to level. Still, I'm having nightmares of them getting punched out one after the other in somewhat comical fashion. Just think of me as the Jynx Advocate General. :)
All that is to say, if I were building a reusable standard team for Rayquaza, I don't think I'd go in there with more than one fully powered Jynx, as their frailty is exacerbated by zero resistances to Ray's moves. But experience will be your guide.
Gamepress has them out: https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/raid-boss-counter/rayquaza-raid-counter-guide
That being said, I'm using Jynx/Jynx/Articuno/Walrein/Walrein/Lugia against Dragon movesets and Jynx/Jynx/Articuno/Walrein/Dragonite/Dragonite against other movesets.
I'm actually surprised at how many decent wild-caught counters I WON'T be using for this fight. I have a Lapras, Piloswine, Cloyster, Gardevoir (not powered, will consider), and lots of Golems that will just be gathering dust during this month (unless i need to quickly make a second team to jump back in after fainting)
I just wanna use what i already have now
It will be 2 team
Team 1 :
2 dragonite
1 gardevoir
1 Clefable
1 Walrein
1 Lapras ( i like it, my old gym system dragonite killer)
Team 2:
1 Kabutops ( yes i like it also)
4 Golems
1 Tyranitar
That should be enough for 5 trainer setup for optimal personal damage.,.
But off course have to battle it first to really know how my squad will performs..
I've prepared longer for Rayquaza than any other legendary to date because I never needed an entire team of Dragon slayers before, so I'm extremely excited!
L37 Dragonite Dragon Tail/Outrage
L33 Piloswine Ice Shard/Avalanche
L33 Cloyster Frost Breath/Avalanche
L31 Cloyster Frost Breath/Avalanche
L31 Cloyster Frost Breath/Avalanche
L33 Lapras Frost Breath/Ice Beam
All of them have 15 attack except for the Dragonite, which is 14/14/15.
Wish I had Cloysters at that level. I've been ignoring that raid for months now.
Here is mine:
L30 Lapras - Frost Breath / Blizzard (100%)
L30 Dragonite - Dragon Tail / Hurricane (82%)
L33 Walrein - Frost Breath / Blizzard (96%)
L33 Gardevoir - Confusion / Dazzling Gleam (91%)
L27 Piloswine - Powder Snow / Avalanche (91%)
L31 Golem - Rock Throw / Stone Edge (93%)
I really want to have 6 different mon for this team. I've been hoping to get a decent Cloyster, with little Luck. I have managed to catch and evolve 4 level 33 Cloyster with Avalanche, all are 70+ % due to weather boosting. But am hoping to find a better one for the team.
I just made the Lapras and the Piloswine, using Charged TMs and have been powering them up. I also have 3 more double ice, over 90% over level 30, Walreins. They are often weather boosted here, in Seattle.
