Your knowledge about Curve Balls may be wrong

I recently read a thread on thesilphroad about how to throw Curve Balls and after testing it myself I realised I've been doing it wrong for a year now!

If you spin the ball and throw it in a curve it does not guarantee the catch bonus, however if you throw it in a straight line from left to right (or vice versa) you do get the bonus. Which means the only condition for a Curve Ball is to cross the middle line of your screen.

I hope this information helps some of you.

hmmmmm.....every once in a while I have not received the curveball catch bonus, even when sparks were clearly flying off the ball during its joyous flight to catching the mon. Not crossing the center line could explain that.

Can you still get frequent great throw bonus throwing it that way? Not sure the trade off would be worth it, I usually do a one-handed thumb throw and get curve+great bonus reasonably regularly (but I do cross the middle of the screen in generating the throw).

I can confirm this (from my personal experience at least). But it's not exactly a vertical "line", more like a vertical "band". Which means that the ball doesn't have to cross the midline of the screen, it just has to get close enough.

And the ball has to enter that band as it's about to land, not when it's being launched. I've tried launching the ball from the left side of the screen to hit the mon on the right side and I did not get the curveball bonus.
