2 Gyarados, 2 Dragonite, 2 Exeggutor are my best DPSers for it currently. Against Fire Blast I'll swap the Exeggutors for 1 Dragonite and 1 Vaporeon. Might be worth maxing a third Dragonite for this to be honest since it's pretty high up in the DPS rankings and has good resistances for the charge moves.

For fans of Ho-Oh: Solar Beam Ho-Oh is overall number 2 Groudon counter. A bit slower than the best DPS options but has the best TDO.

Any idea how a high level Dragonite and exeggcutor do against a level 30 average IV Vaporeon?

Dragonite's performance seems to depend on whether it reaches a breakpoint but I haven't checked where that is yet. At L40, Dragonite is better, at L30, Vaporeon is better. Exeggutor is better than Vaporeon against non-FB movesets while Vaporeon is better against FB.

EDIT: Seems the Dragonite breakpoint is level 34.5 with 15 attack.

I will go:

Exeggutor BS/SoB lvl 35,5 98%
Gyarados K/HP lvl 35,5 96%
Gyarados K/HP lvl 31,5 93%
Victrebeel RL/SoB lvl 31,5 93%
Victrebeel RL/SoB lvl 31,5 93%
Vaporeon WG/HP lvl 35,5 84%

All have 15 attack.
Other options would include two C/SoB Exeggutor or two other Vaporeon WG/HP, all at lvl 31,5 and with IVs around 80%. Will see if Victrebeel is a good choice and maybe replace them with one of those. Two maxed Dragonites are in the running too

Against Fire Blast, you should bring in those Vaporeons and Dragonites to replace the grass mons that will get OHKO'd or dodgebugged. And against Solar Beam the Vaporeon should get replaced with a Dragonite.

Groudon seems like an interesting boss to fight looking at sims, the top counters list changes so much depending on the moveset.

Gyarados seems the all round top counter against any move set. Time to use some TMs.

For sure. It's undisputed top counter against FB and EQ movesets and 4th best against SoB.

Thats why Dragonite is so valuable. You can always slot him in without sacrificing much. I will probably take 3 dragons into any Groundon that is not Earthquake.

Fearful running to Dragonite this MF knows Dragon Tail with 297 attack stat will punish Dragonite for even looking at him.

Down

Dragonite is scoring high on pokebattler despite the Dragon Tail. It'll hit hard, but Dragonite still has high TDO due to being so tanky against the charge moves.

EDIT: Also Groudon only has 270 atk due to the nerf. Still massively powerful, but not Mewtwo-level scary.

How much CP will a 100% IV Groudon be at level 20? And at level 25?

Edit: According to pokeassistant we get the following 100% IVs CPs:
Level 20: 2328 CP
Level 25: 2910 CP (Sunny Weather)

I posted this in our local group originally as well, but it sounds too high for post-nerf CPs. I assume those were pre-nerf statistics, don't you think?

Just calculated them, got the same numbers.
Minimum catch CPs will be 2236 CP and 2796 CP.

What will you use against Solar Beam Groudon?

Disregarding weather effects. For Exeggcutor holds bullet seed > confusion, right?

For those of you interested, a 15A Gyarados will hit waterfall breakpoint already at level 32.5. For those of you who don't know how to access breakpoint calculators, you can always use this one from the website of game press:

https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/breakpoint-calculator#/

However, please keep in mind that the calculator of game press probably still uses pre-nerf statistics for Groudon, such that outcomes may be skewed.

For those interested, I can look up the correct outcomes if necessary.

Gyarados (waterfall breakpoint - post-nerf outcome)

Do you know the break point for BS Exegg against Groudon? I have enough high levels Gyarados, Vaps and Dragonites, but lack good Exeggs (only a couple with SB at lv 30-31)

The breakpoint for 15A Exeggcutor with bullet deed is 34.5. Might consider to power one since I only have a strong confusion one.

Great, TY! I also consider powering up one Venusaur with VW, comes very close to Exegg on Pokebattler and have double resistance against Grass. Do you have the break point for this as well (I can't get the calculator on Gamepress to work)
PS! I now have two Exeggs at lev 35 :) 93 and 96% with14A, ty

Don't worry about it buddy. I'm sitting in a bus for 6 more hours, got currently not much to do. Besides, it provides a nice overview to my self too. So feel free to ask anything what you want.

Breakpoint for vine whip Venusaur with 14&15A is 25.5. Please note that weather effects are excluded. Figurs would look a little bit different in that case. Figure below is weather excluded:

Ok, then I leave my lev 30 Venusaur as it is.
One more, I have a ZH Exegg, which I am a little hesitant to TM to BS, do you have the breakpoint for this as well?
Hope you enjoy the bus trip :)

I'm on my way to cairo and hopefully I'm able to catch some sleep in a bit.

Breakpoint for ZH Exeggcutor with 15A is 28 weather excluded. Weather included is about the same, so shouldn't need to worry about that too much.

You can try my own calculator of course, but for some reason it doesn't seem to work for others: http://jop.space/powerUp/#!/?defender=RAIKOU&level=T5&attacker=MEWTWO&move=PSYCHO_CUT_FAST

Picture below is for ZH Exeggcutor:

I will definitely try this out:

I'm putting Ho-Oh into my Groudon team as well though I have SW instead of ES. Currently we have snow where I live and if PoGO decides it's snowy enough SW will outperform ES; otherwise it's the other way around.

Edit: almost forgot to congratulate you: your Ho-Oh is truly magnificent! :)

Thanks! It is my first perfect legendary. Needed more than 300 5-star Raids to find one ^^

I TM my 100% to SoB too, and powered up to L 38 now!
Perfect timing for Ho-Oh (E/SoB) to shine! Resists all 3 Groudon charge attacks!

According to pokebattler, my best team, in order by time to win is:

Gyarados WF/HP 2945
Gyarados WF/HP 2943
Dragonite DT/O 3581
Mewtwo C/SB 3613
Exeggutor BS/SoB 2670
Exeggutor BS/SoB 2471

I was kind of surprised Mewtwo made the "A" team.

Just caught this sunny Groudon. I used my grass team due to the weather boast.

Catching was similar to TTar, but probably just a bit farther. His attack also appears to end slightly before it actually does.

Did 3 of them from 5:03pm to 5:40 pm... Cloudy: 2 fire blasts and 1 solar beam. Each time took us about 155 secs and 10 or 11 each battle. 4 Water Gyarados, Vaporeon, Omastar for the fire. Dragonites and a Lugia for Solar...guess I'll research this thread after typing this and see what is best for Solar

May I present this beauty.... I had barely realized there was another legendary after checking Discord and was able to join a group at a sponsored gym. I had no time to research anything, didn't want to ask questions like a noob, so I went with the suggested attackers, 2 gyarados and 4 D'nite, who fainted near the end (and I almost along with them... but I was either able to rejoin at the last second or it didn't matter). And yes, a crappy unstable Internet connection added to the excitement....

There were 10 of us, level 27-40 (I'm 39). He had SB, but it was cloudy. His stats: CP 2289, 12/13/14 (87%). My second legendary!

Awesome, glad you caught it. I know I'm always really glad to get my first of each kind. The crowd I was with had high level players going around trying to get them all...but I had a 45 min window I could raid. I did start demanding we separate into teams...they rolled 17 against one right before I got there. Having said that, fighting in enemy gyms, plus good players battling...10 balls, 9 balls, 9 balls. I actually only secured the first, a 2299; missed 2269; then missed a 2300.

Thanks. I had 9 balls, caught him with the 6th (GR, curve, great). It was my lucky day, I guess :D
