Why there is a limit in the pokemon bag??
I have been wondering since the game was launched why I can't collect more than 1000 pokemons. Are we going to have the third gen and still a 1000 limit?? This game is about collecting, it's stupid having that limit...

I hate managing my storage. It is the worst part of the game next to spoofers.
My suggestion is to provide a button that will automatically highlight mons different colors depending on what tier rating they fall into. Then I could quickly see which ones have bad IVs without having to click through all those appraisals text boxes.
I hate to be that guy, and I know that people have different play styles, but I can't fathom how 1000 is not enough storage. I can see it when prestiging was still a thing. I understand why you would want to keep multiple optimized pokemon at lots of different cp ranges and that 1000 would be pushing it for those with an extreme desire for options. However, now? I have 500 pokemon. I go through at the end of the day and transfer almost all of my daily catches (after checking IVs, moves, etc.). I don't keep a bunch of mons ready for mass evolves, but if I did then maybe I would want 100-300 more storage spaces. But I think if you look at your storage, you have to ask yourself why you really need all 1000. Does it serve a purpose? Does it hold some sentimental value? Do you see it becoming valuable someday? If all those answers are no, then transfer. Simple as that.
I'm the same - I've got slots for 600, I've pared it down to 475, and of that 475, only 30 are regularly used. 30-45 more are used in specific situations (Eggy and Jolteons vs Water Pokémon for example). Meaning I've got 400 that are not used for anything at all. Most I'm saving for Breeding, though mostly because I do want to have at least one 100% IV for each type of Pokémon so I have a few high IV mon's. I've also got Mon's that I've deluded myself into thinking are useful (like Wigglytuff - I love Wigglytuff but it's not as great a Pokémon as I think it is) and all those stupid Pikachu's with those stupid hats.
I hate the hats. I hate that I can't seem to delete all my Pikachu's with low IV's that I keep only because of the hats. Harumph. Anyway.
Hopefully we'll get an answer about Breeding before we get Generation 3. Otherwise, I'm gonna be in an annoying situation (of my entire doing, not blaming Niantic for it) and will be grumbling about my inability to transfer useless Pokémon.
For me it's not a matter of being useful or not. I have a lot of them that I have never used. But otherwise how could I find motivation? Having just dragonites and tyranitars 100% with perfect movesets? The thing is that reaching that is really difficult and while you don't have them you are not satisfied. And when you have them the game has finished. But if you play with ilusion to have a 100% raticate or furret you have infinite motivation in the way, even if you are not going to use them.
For me this game is about collecting, not just about having the best mons.
For everyone who can't understand why people may want more than 1000 for their mon box, bear in mind there are currently over 800 different mons as of Gen 7, and Go itself will have nearly 400 when Gen 3 happens. Maybe if you don't care to have a full collection, but many do, and I'd also like to not be forced to make space every time I get a second or third copy of a given mon.
Also, it's nice if you go out for a long hunting session (particularly if you use a Plus) to not have to constantly be transferring everything you catch because your box keeps filling up.
this is the reason i dont understand y ppl want more than 1000 slots.
i care abt collecting every species too. i keep at least one optimized version (iv, moveset, etc.) for each pokemon i can get, i keep extras if there is gym value (machamps, snorlax, etc) or there are evolutions in future generations (hi rhydon), i also keep abt 20 pikachus ( and 1 pichu) with different hats, starmines with different hidden powers and all lengendaries i caught.
and thats only 330/400 in my bag, i thought of getting more space too but realized 70 is abt how many i can catch per day, so clearing duplicants daily is enough for me.
there are abt 250 pokemons in the game now, u can keep 4 for each species if u have 1000 slots. even when we're at gen7, we still have 200 slots for duplicants, right? that doesnt sound too harsh.
what is filling ur bag? pokemons with gender differences?
The main point in the short term (likely not long after the new year) was that the very next generation will bring the pokemon total to just under 400, meaning you could only have two of every species before your box would be almost entirely full at the current max.
For some other specific reasons:
1) Yes, there are a few species with noticeable gender differences. Along with shinies as more get added to the game.
2) When it comes to high meta raiders many people want a full team of six of those specific mons. Ttar, Dragonite, Machamp, Golem/Rhydon
3) Rarer mons, with desirable candy, for gym holders that you can feed, Ttar and Dragonite for me, these are also different than the ones I use specifically for raids.
4) Since we have experienced double candy events I also personally hold on to the transfer worthy copies of those rarer types of mons as well. I keep every non-high IV copy of the Abra, Machop, Dratini, and Larvitar lines I catch. It's true that I would have much more space if I were not to do so, but since I maxed my pokemon box many months ago (all without spending actual money on the game) I'm able to have that extra buffer with the prospect of much more valuable candy in the future.
5) There is always the possibility of holding on to multiple copies of trash pokes for mass evolves, not that I personally go in for that sort of thing since I've reached the high 30s level range.
6) Having enough free space, even when not at the max, that you can keep the mons you find useful with plenty of buffer to avoid constantly transferring when out on a play session can make the game feel like less of a chore for many.
7) Finally, a minor silly but fun thing I like to do is hold on to specific CP numbers such as 777, 666, and 420 and give each a "clever" name.
None of this is to say that a current lack of a larger box is some sort of game/dealbreaker for me, but I have my reasons to want more space eventually, and I'm sure other players have even more.
I save for possible nerfs of moves/pokemon, but I also save a mon from different cities I've visited. I don't spoof, so they are like little far away trophies from different cities I've visited over the last year or so.
It would be cool if we could map our mons somehow.
Of course spoofer's maps would be all over the place, but they don't really count now do they.
I'm not sure if this actually matters, but I wonder if it's because pokemon require more data that has to be kept track of than items do. Every single pokemon has its own individual stats--customized name, level, IVs, location and date captured, etc--while items have just so many that exist, and it's only a matter of how many of each you have, much simpler.
So if everyone is suddenly able to hold 500 more items, so what, but millions of players each holding 500 more pokemon is quite a bit more information they have to store. Just a guess.
pokemon require more data that has to be kept track of than items do
Sure, but it not that much, say 4 bytes for #, lvl and iv, 2 for moves, 26 bytes for name, 2 bytes for location, 1 for capture method. So, 35 bytes, or 35 kbytes pro user, don't looks that much. I guess they store way more data to apply shadowbans.
Yes, I'm sure it is very minimal for each pokemon, but maybe it adds up to something significant with so many players; I don't know the actual numbers.
Or maybe that does have nothing to do with it, but it's pretty much the only reason I can think of why they raised max item storage but not pokemon storage. Well, except maybe if they're just waiting to do it when they release gen 3.
I totally agree. It takes some of the fun out of it when you have to constantly flip through your dex to throw a mon you like the least of the ones you really like away. Also, the higher level you are, the longer you played and the more great IV and special pokemons you have amassed. I hate having to choose between a high 90s mon and a low 90s mon to throw away. It just doesn't seem right. I have already gotten rid of 50% of my species because I am constantly trimming away mons, even those that I really really liked. I finally threw away all my 666s and half my shineys. Between shineys, hats, really high ivs, personal faves, perfect 100s, room for mass evos, a couple of each premier battlers, and whatever other personal enjoyment we get out of playing, 1000 is not enough. Don't get me started on the Bag either. My rare candies alone take up over 1/3 of my bag right now.
