Why is everyone only looking at attacking movesets?

I really do not get it, I started playing PoGo in December last year, had a windowsphone...
Every time I read some comments or watch Trainer Tipps it is allways about best attacking movesets.
But WHY?
When I srarted playing I always kept in mind:
gyms get you coins ->
coins get you bigger inventory/pokebox, lucky eggs, breeding machines ->
you NEED gyms ->
you NEED best defenders with best defending movesets for gyms!
If you're up to it you can defeat a 3000cp Dragonite with a 2.000CP Cloyster, or just don't care about type advantages and attack with a bite/hydropump Gyarados. Who cares?
In my opinion the most important thing in the current metagame is to get and keep your 10 gyms for the coins and stardust you get daily.
Are there any who share my opinion?

Two reasons.

1) Only 7 pokemon are viable defenders with the cp ranking system. For every other pokemon only attacking movesets are relevant.

2) Given the fact that few movesets will ever deter anyone from taking down a gym, even on the big 7, their defensive movesets aren't really THAT important. High cp is more important, because what good does a great moveset do you if you can't place your mon in a gym.

...and a third:

3) Even with the big 7, if you power up one with high IV's and a great attacking moveset he has a dual purpose. You can attack with him effectively or you can put him in a gym due to high cp. With a strong defensive moveset, he is really only useful as a defender.

Of course, this may change with the gym rework, who knows.

Thank you, that makes indeed sense. No one ever explained it to me like that. But I also consider all the possible move type advatages for atackers and defenders. For example, I don't use Machamp like a lot of people do against Blissey, because of the possible moves it can have I rather use my Alakazam with focusblast.
I think a big part of my mindset ist that in my city we don't have a lot of those determinded attackers like you said, so most of the time level 10 gyms stay that way for a long time.

I've said many times before that 1 single trainer can never allow any level 10 gyms to be built...the gyms that I can see from my house, no one has ever collected coins within 21 hours...never. This makes attackers important because at the end of the day, it's all about saving your time and wasting everyone elses...If you can clear gyms quickly, no one will bother to prestige them since prestiging will always take longer (them attacking with level 20 and you attacking with level 30+ mons).

At the end of the day, if your goal is dust/coins, focus on high CP and that's it...

All the hype/concern about defensive movesets, I've said before is overrated. A half decent player/attacker (and most I've seen are pretty bad actually, especially when it comes to prestiging) won't care what moveset you have.

This can all change with the gym rework however...Maybe if your defender actually knocks out the attacker, he will get points/coins, etc...This makes moves like Hydropump, Solar Beam, Hyperbeam, etc...better (there was stuff mined in the code stating that so and so defended the gym, etc...).

Machamp is great (even C/CC ones)...I can clear 2900+ Blisseys in like 60 secs now...

I don't see many 3100+ Blisseys here.

does your Machamp's level over 30? I have one with IV 91, C/CC and lvl 30, it loses against Blissey that have CP over 2600+ (I just dodge on charge moves)

No, my Machamp is level 30, but 80%. The thing with Machamp is even if you dodge all, you have plenty of time to win. At least against lower CP Blisseys. If it's 3100+, you may not want to dodge...

Also, if it's pound, I don't dodge since it's harder to time 2 counters as pound is a lot faster and there can be lag...

You can general fit 3 counters between each zen headbutt...I sometimes do 3/2/3/2, etc...

Because a 3219CP ZH/DG blissey is going down for any player who wants it to go down. The movesets are not going to deter a determined attacker.

Right now the meta only allows for these 6 defenders because of CP sorting:
Blissey
Gyarados
Rhydon
Snorlax
Dragonite
Tyranitar
Blissey is the only 'good' defender right now, but because of CP sorting, everyone would want to place their Pokemon above Blissey so they would last longer in gyms.
Notice that the 5 other defenders I listed above besides Blissey, are the only Pokemon with max CP higher than Blissey?

You have a point, but I also consider Vaporeon to be a good defender, and any other Pokemon which can reach over 3.000CP. I'm already kind of preparing for Togekiss, Tangrowth and other pokemon which I can catch now and their evolutions in future generations can reach over 3.000CP.

In the current gym meta there really is no such thing as a good defender. Even the best blissey is very beatable by many many mons.
But attacking movesets very much matter. In order to beat that blissey you need a very good attacking moveset.

Why is everyone only looking at attacking movesets?

Wrong basic assumption -> all conclusions irrelevant.

(maybe, if Gamepress [look defenders Tier list] or I are not part of "everyone"...)

Thanks for downvote without explaination!

Two of my defenders, actually sitting in Gyms:
Level 30 Slowbro Confusion / Ice-Beam
Level 36,5 Exeggutor Confusion / Seed Bomb.

As you can easily see, i do look at defending moveset (thus, not "only looking at attacking movesets"), and, if i am part of "everybody", the basic assumption is wrong indeed.

People won't care if your Tyranitar has IT/C, IT/FB or B/SE when they see it in a gym.
But it will take longer for attackers to take your Tyranitar down if it is protected by a stack of Blisseys. The stack of Blisseys probably already deters most attackers.

(Anything below is not relevant to the topic, just how Blissey towers don't stop attackers in Singapore)
But in Singapore, Blissey stack doesn't deter attackers for a few reasons.
1: 90% of trainers here are hardcore and want some challenges like taking down Blissey gyms
2: Pokestops are abundant here so potions are easy to get
3: Density of Pokemon trainers here is very very high, there are many raid groups all over the island

Also good attackers make it easier to prestige gyms as well. For attacking, if your Cloyster has Ice Shard/AuroraBeam vs Frost Breath/Avalanche. FB/Avalanche is must easier to take down Dragonite. I dont want to spend all day attacking gyms. It's nice having 100 coins/ 5000 stardust daily. too bad in a few days all gyms are going down

I have 8 stable gyms atm and harvest 10 each day.

A stable gym is a dead gym. I hope, there will be more life with the update.
