Why is Dragonite a top tier defender?
He's double weak to ice.
Yeah, he has good stats, but a competent attacker with either a Lapras, Dewgong, or Cloyster is gonna wreck him pretty easily.
Compared to the other two top tier defenders who also have good stats and don't really have any glaring weaknesses, he seems oddly highly placed.

- Yes, he has 3 counters, but Lapras is very rare, and getting a Dewgong/Cloyster with Blizzard isn't exactly easy or common. Compare that to any fire/grass defender, where every single player has a strong counter in Flareon/Vaporeon.
- Yes, a competent attacker can take out Dragonite without too much trouble, but a competent attacker with a strong counter can take out any other defender even easier. Not to mention that if you mistime a Blizzard on your Cloyster (or your phone lags/glitches when you try to dodge) and you take a full Dragon Pulse to the face, you'll probably die before he does.
- The highest CP in the game has a psychological effect that really shouldn't be ignored. The majority of potential attackers are going to see that 3000 and just walk away without even trying.
