Why does Mewtwo outdamage Gengar vs Cresselia?

Cresselia is a pure psychic type, just like Mewtwo is. So why did legacy Gengar top the charts on DPS against Mewtwo (with SB Mewtwo a close second), but Mewtwo tops the charts against Cresselia with Gengar a distant second? There's over a 1.5 DPS gap between them, Mewtwo does more than 10% more DPS than Gengar against Cresselia according to the guide here?

Calcy's top ten DPS counters has 4 Gengar movesets. The others are all theoretical (Darkrai and Attack Deoxys).

I think Deoxys Attack isn't viable in practice (A future sight can likely ko it before it does anything and confusion likely kills it in 5 hits), so it's basically moot. Trust your Gengars.

Agree, thats why its theoretically. In practice, no it'd never work, its somewhat similar to gengar in specific match ups like that (this being one of the few it can reliably translate Gengar's massive DPS effectively)

attack deoxys will die way before it creselia can use its charge move lol

I guess that they have non-legacy gengar listed in the chart. Legacy gengars (lick or SC) should still be top DPS against Cressilia as they were against Mewtwo.

SC is listed...but it doesn't know what to do with a double dark move Gengar

The guide here is comparing Hex gengar to Mewtwo, not Shadow claw or Lick gengar, that's why. If you hover over gengar's icon in the rain graph, it says 'non-shadow claw gengar'.
Lick/Shadow claw gengar still beat Mewtwo.

It's possible that against some things, gengar will lose out even with shadow claw. This is because it's so squishy that it's more likely to die with wasted energy earlier than mewtwo - this can have a big effect on dps. But that's not the case vs cresselia

I just did my first one, I trio’d it by myself. Out of 18 mons maybe 2 were Gengar. Finished with 39 seconds left. Never fainted. Next challenge please;)

(we got foggy weather at 4pm and Cresselia had Future Sight so dozen+ Mewtwo and Tyranitar were hardly dented)
