who should I buddy, lapras or dratini

With the coming event who would be most beneficial of the two? To add to my attacking team

I'm a level 29 casual player. I do gyms while on the way to work and going home whenever I saw level 1-7 enemy gyms that I can takedown in a hurry (30 minutes or less). There are two gyms that are near my home (these two are close to each other) but are always level 10 w/c I can takedown in about 2 hrs every weekend for 20 coins.

My team are composed of
Lapras cp2181 iv78 IS+IceBM
Vaporeon cp2724 iv98 WG+Hydro
Vaporeon cp2704 iv96 WG+Aqua
Jolteon cp2329 iv91 TS+Thndr
Exeggutor cp2490 iv93 Co+Psych
Arcanine cp2219 iv87 FF+Blast
*all maxed out for my level except Arcanine

These mons have low-med iv and are switched to arca/vaps depending on the enemy gyms I attack

Exeggutor cp2110 Co+Solar
Rhydon cp2292 RS+Quake

Most of the gyms here are stacked with drags, garys and laxes/blisseys

I have a dragonite (SW+Pulse) which I put on gyms (my highest CP mons at 2864, only need 4 candies to max at my current level)

Should I continue with my current buddy dratini cp332 iv87 to have candies to evolve it into a dragonite someday and roll the dice and hope for an attacking moveset

or switch to my other lapras cp259 iv51-53 IS+Blizz so I can level it up to help my 1st lapras in taking down the dragonite towers in my area?

drats are rare in my area, I have only evolved my dragonite from a dragonair that I have lucky catched while the IceBm lapras was hatched, the Blizz lapras was from a wild catch...

i personally don't rate dragonites highly - good on attack with almost any moveset but shit on def.

lapras crushes dragonites and is an ok defender but got nerfed hugely. still best dragonite killer but don;t take it above 30.

stick to vaperons on gym def and walk chanseys in event IMO

I'd walk a Larvitar if you ever found one...There is no need for more Lapras candy as an attacker doesn't need to be over level 30 if you are short on dust...(usually, this problem goes away at the higher levels).

Dragonite still has decent stats so I'd stick to the big 4 and that's probably the safest bet (Chansey, Snorlax, Dratini, Larvitar)...

Your IS/blizz lapras is only 51% with a CP of 259. Firstly, not the best quick move for taking down dragonites but I guess its ok. Secondly, both IV and CP are low, especially the CP. That's gonna take a lot of dust and candy and IMO not worth it.

Lapras is only good at taking down dragonites. Dragonites are also good at taking down other dragonites on top of being great generalists. I'd say walk the dratini.

Yeah between the two for sure I'd say the dratini. But if you have either a Snorlax or a Chansey I'd do one of those first....Even if they aren't suitable for powering up / evolving now. You will eventually get one that is, and appreciate the candy. Level 29 is still pretty early in the game, and attackers are easier to come by than defenders in most cases.

I don't really like dragonite much - they're great on paper and in simulations, but the metagame is not kind to them. Their type counters are very hard counters and are reasonably abundant - and they're so common in gyms you're guaranteed to have attackers who know exactly what to do to them. And on attack, they don't have type advantage vs much - you can get faster kills with type counters.

I personally cannot imagine walking for a 'nite - not when tyranitar is also an option. Not when you can evolve chansey for 50 candies. Not when snorlax exists.

Personally, I am tending towards Lapras for me.

If the gym rework changes the order of gyms to the mon lvl rather than CP, then a high level Lapras may be a very good defender.
I know it is a gamble, but is there really a problem with having Lapras candy?

I will be collecting a few Larvitar and Dratini candy early on for some lvling of mons.

for att i prefer Dratini / Larvitar (if you have one) as a Buddy and hoping it's gonna have an optimal moveset when evolved. But if you have Chansey with IV > 80, definitely Chansey as a bud for Rock Event.

Dratini, only because I use D'nites for attack & high level defense a lot and Lapras rarely.

I think you shold fo with dratini and hope for double dragon dragonite. If not they steal usable for defender.

For beating dragonite you can use dugong or cloister.

The lapras is low level need much resource..

I'm kind of baffled by those hating on Dragonite on offense. DT/O is easily one of the best attackers into Blissey and Snorlax. Obviously the risk you run is not getting an ideal moveset. I don't think you need another Lapras...Do you have other options?
