Who to buddy?

Is this a no brainer? Chansey if you have it? Been doing dratini forever but almost seems like he is increasingly irrelevant?

Larvitar or Chansey.

Ive walked Larvitar for 200km, im over 125candys but i honestly, at this point with the arguments im reading, mainly see Tyranitar as a Trophy-attacker. Ive since changed over to chansey for the sake of Blissey.
Still dont have a Larvitar with good iv:s so perhaps my perspective will change when i get a good one (hatch).
For now it seems the more important goal is more chansey-candy!

Second highest CP...hardly irrelevant. If dragonite is irrelevant then so is everything except Tyranitar in the game...

If anything gyarados, vape and Rhydons are more impacted. Irrelevant is a bit harsh. A 12.12.12 Trex is smaller then a 100% Dnite so they are very similar.

You guys are right. I am being harsh. I have two high iv dragonites and a third dratini 97.8 on the way with 60 candy. I've watched dragonite go from tier 1 to 2.5 while my grade a movesets are now legacy. I havent even powered them up yet. Just seems by time I get them viable they will be damn near useless. Just wondering if I should switch to Chansey since it's in a league of her own atm.

But you dont want 10 blisseys neither. Blissey is so small and costs a ton of stardust and candy, not sure about the class of its own. Who knows that DB/DC may be the best in PVP.
I have 2 P/DG blisseys at level 30 and 37.5 that I drop off exclusively on local spoofer gyms. Not sure I'd evolve another even though I have 180 candies left. Maybe with Gen 3 new Blissey moves get released. My strategy is to hold and wait for PVP rework to see where I should invest. Im afraid of things like if P/HB is the best blissey and overall mon in PVP. I want to be in a position to take advantage of whatever but Im high level and have suitable defenders so I can strategize accordingly.
FYI my buddy is Snorlax

Wouldn't want 10 Blisseys? Speak for yourself. I'd love 10 Blissey's!

Dang, that candy. Makes me wish I had played more during pink event....or used a working tracker at the time....as I'm sitting on 800 Egg candy, 600 Jiggly candy, and 500+ Slowpoke/Clefairy, and meanwhile caught 3 Chansey total during event.

I plan on walking Chansey during gen 2 until gen 3 is released...just like I walked Snorlax in gen 1 until gen 2 dropped.

What I mean is my Dnites at level 33 are 3100+ so by investing in high level (dratini), high CP defenders like Dnite and Trex can save you a lot of stardust. I think having 3 or more Blisseys is gonna be very hard on your resources. Sure they are a pain to fight but they will sit at the bottom of gyms.
I went very hard on the Valentines event and was very fortunate to hatch 2 Chanceys.

You shouldn't base your view of Dragonite on its defending tier. Blissey is one alone as well as Snorlax because they are the ideal meta game defining defenders. But take them away and Dragonite is way up there. Tier 2.5 may as well be the same as Snorlax for what it's worth

I love Dragonite. He's awesome. But he'd never be my buddy over Chansey simply b/c of rarity.

Look, even if Dratini aren't common by you, there are areas where you can go specifically to catch Dratini knowing they spawn there. There is no such place for Chansey. The rarity level is just in a completely different league

I´m honestly asking myself this question too...I have one Snorlax at the max with ZH/BS and enough candy to max him out at the next level up...same with my blissey with ZH/DG after hatching another chansey today...I don´t think that I will start pushing a second one of one of those two big defenders, since it would require me to walk at least around 400 km for one of them to push it up to b relevant.
I don´t have a second Snorlax with ZH to start with and I won´t push a Lick-one and a second Chansey evolution would take like forever with the risk of getting psychic...so it´s larvitar or dratini...I have 4 Dragonite but non has DT up to this point, but I find Dratini in the wild from time to time and hatch them really often whereas Larvitars are super-rare, so I will go for Larvitar I guess.

Depends on your situation I guess.

I finally "unfriended" dratini now that I'm up to 133 candies, in favor of Chansey. I have only one Dragonite (SW/DP - grade A defense at the time and has earned a lot of coins), and was saving candy as per conventional wisdom to be able to evolve and then power up to level 30... unfortunately I didn't evolve pre-gen2, so have forever missed my chance to [not] get DB/DC... so it goes ... I've got 6x10K eggs waiting to throw in incubators so I'm planning to get the rest of my dratini candy (and maybe a stronger candidate) from hatches, if they really are more common now.

Gen 1 I walked Snorlax 1,500 km without changing

Gen 2 I plan to do the same with Chansey

At the end of the day, I caught 50-100 Dratini in Gen 1 for every Snorlax I caught. I don't see Chansey being any different with Larvitar. I've already caught about 15-20 Larvitar vs. 1 Chansey (which I Had to use a tracker and walk 1 mile to find) in Gen 2.

Not going to switch even without a finished Pokedex. I'll catch them eventually. What's the rush?

In the meantime I'm going to continue with my Gen 1 Strategy: Walk the rarest, strongest gym defender to try and have best shot of maxing daily rewards

Depends on what you need candies for. If you need any of the special item evolves (steelix, scizor, slowking, bellosum, politoed, etc.) make their pre-evolves a buddy. If not, any of these 5 are good buddies (for gym dominance: Chansey/Blissey, Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite, Larivtar/Pupitar/Tyranitar, Gyarados/Magikarp (if you really need the candies), Vaporeon/Espeon (as stated for Magikarp), and Rhyhorn/Rhydon.

This is just my 2 cents.

Budding up with a pre-evolve increases chances for an item? Confirmed...I wasn't aware, no wonder I haven't been getting any!

Depends on your area.
In my area walking Dratini is irrelevant.
There's a lake near my house that spawns 20+ of them per day. It's almost garanteed that I'll find at least one of them everytime I go there.

So I choose to walk the most rare pokémons from my area, which are Chansey, Larvitar and Mareep (never seen a wild Mareep here).

Anyway, if Dratinis are rare on your area, walk them until you get a good Dragonite.
Then go for whatever is most rare.

I'm walking Larvitar and it seems like a no brainer. I did very well during the valentines event and I'm in good shape with chansey. And Larvitar is very very rare, and I certainly want a Tyranitar eventually.
