While I wait to get my ex-raid pass/invitation for Mewtwo...

...how big of a difference he makes? Considering current gym system is there any reason to power him up?

At this point I'd settle for 10/10/10 Mewtwo just for pokedex entry. I'm accustomed to legendaries with not great IV.

You honestly don’t really need one as he’s not vital in the current meta. He does make a great generalist, but so do dragonite and ttar. The only place where I can see him making a huge impact is as a machamp counter for those who solo threes, but this can also be accomplished easily without a mewtwo.

That being said, I maxed mine out. He’s my favorite Pokémon, and I find him very fun to use.

Thanks for comment. That some good insight from you. This just shows that gym rework should happen sometime next year.

Powering up favourite Pokemon makes a lot of sense to me.

Its the way to play dude! So many people are like YOURE POWERING THAT UP OMG NOOB. Meanwhile you can sweep nearly any gym with nearly any pokemon. Do what makes you happy. Power up that Miltank - or whatever!

Now that you mention Miltank... she was beast in classic games. That's too bad because I like her, especially with that rollout combo. :D

I went to solo a Gengar last night. It had H/SB. I went in with 2 TTars level 32 B/C, Gengar level 33.5 SC/SB, Espeon level 32.5 C/FS, and Alakazam level 32 PC/P. I should have won. My lineup was good enough. My dodging was good enough. However I was defeated by lag. I wish I had taken a recording because I PROMISE I'm not just making excuses. Finally, I went in with a couple others and won handily, but I was beyond frustrated. I know that if I had a Mewtwo then I could have even beaten the lag!

Anyway, that experience made me finally decide to pull the trigger on my 78% (14 attack) C/SB Mewtwo. I only have enough candy to bring him up to level 30 right now, but I've missed out on the last 3-4 rounds of ex passes and I'm tired of waiting.

I don't know if that answers your question, but I had to get that frustration off my chest lol!

More power to you man. I would honestly have powered up any IV mewtwo I got, I was just fortunate enough to get a 96% with 15 attack.

Also good points regarding gengar and zam solos. I should have mentioned them in my original post.

I was obviously waiting for a better one. Then I told myself I didn't really need it. Then I missed another ex raid. Then I said I'd wait until Halloween and if I still didn't have another Mewtwo I'd power up my own. Then I missed ANOTHER round of passes for the 27th. Then came that damn Gengar and that's what did it. Congrats on your 96% btw!

I know it can be frustrating. I probably would be missing Mewtwo raid too since when it happened in my city I was at work.

Well, your comment kind of helps, thanks. Someday I'd like to try soloing tier 3 raids so Mewtwo will help me a lot. The fact that he can take half of Machamp HP by himself says a lot.

For gym battles as a generalist you for sure do not need. But to solo level 3 raids which is all I do he makes a massive difference. I have 2 1 96% max out 3906 PC/SB and 84% (11 attack) to level 36 cp3680 C/P. Any Machamp or Gengar moveset can win with over 40 seconds or 50, Alakazam I have soloed all movesets and that's only with Ttar's at level 30 ( have 1 at level 33.5).

Most the things people said I will agree with, he makes a huge difference if you like soloing raids. The thing I will say that I disagree with is him not being good for battling gyms. Yes there are better mons with more ideal movesets that can take care of gyms but do keep in mind, nowadays ppl like throwing blisseys snorlax and chanseys in gyms. A lot of the time most of them have psychic attacks that do super effective damage into machamp, since mewtwo is a psychic type it resists those attacks and focus blast even though mewtwo isn’t a fighting type it still does dumb amounts of damage and with the amount of cp you can get a mewtwo up to he definitely is pretty viable in the present gym meta nowadays. Don’t believe me? Then try it out for your self. I’m not saying it’s the most ideal moveset but gamepress would not say it is a viable charge move if it wasn’t good.

This. Mewtwo doesn't need to dodge Dazzling Gleam or Psychic to the extent that Machamp does, and fares better against the Zen Headbutts of Blisseys and Snorlaxes, while still putting out great damage with Focus Blast and Confusion. Mewtwo also has the option of being a superior dodge/weaver with Psycho Cut, which Machamps only can achieve with legacy Karate Chop.

For Gym Sweeping, of course Mewtwo is a great generalist! It gets a fantastic 2-bar charge move Shadow Ball (2-bars are greatly preferred over 1 bar for current gym battles), and Ghost-type is tied with Dragon-type for having the best neutral coverage. It's not tanky but not frail either defensively.

For raids, Mewtwo gives a little more bulk and a lot more damage to any bosses Alakazam/Espeon/Gengar would counter (Alakazam, Machamp, Gengar raid bosses). Boasting the highest DPS, it also makes a great neutral counter to bosses with low DPS counters such as Raikou.
