Which Snorlax should I power up?

I have two Snorlax; both are wonderful IVs. One has zen headbutt/body slam and the other is lick/hyper beam. They don't spawn in my area at all and with limited snorlax/rare candies i can only focus on one, which one should it be in this new meta?

It seems like blasphemy, but the L/HB is more useful in this meta. I am considering fast TMing my Zen/HB Snorlax to get another good offender.

Thank you for the answer, but isn't zen headbutt a good attack? It charges the charge attack pretty quick.

The thing is, now that STAB is nerfed, I'm not sure good L/HB Snorlax really is, considering it's not really SE into anything.

That's why I ask; at the very least zen headbutt is SE against fighting and the occasional poison type.

Yeah, you actually get penalized for having a really good defender in the gym. I have the same Snorlax as you (ZH/BS 2908 worked so hard to get him from 800 CP) and I had him in a gym for a day and a half. How many coins did I get? ZERO. Because the first day all my other Pokemon got kicked out of gyms and gave me a few coins. The second day I reached the 50 coin limit with other Pokemon and THEN my Snorlax got kicked out of the gym.

I noticed that with my 3200 Dragonite too. Hate the new coin system.

Yeah, but keep that Snorlax. He is a legacy, after all. Maybe they'll change how you collect coins in the future. Now it's all about offense.

Believe me, I have no intentions of giving the professor a legacy pokemon, like my weak dragon claw Dragonite.

Honestly, none of them at the moment.

I have enough candy to evolve and level up to L30 a high IV Blissey and I'm not even doing that. I'm sure good defenders will become relevant again sometime in the future, but right now they are not. Unless you take morning showers in stardust, I would save it for the prime attackers at the moment.

About a million dust at the moment. It's the candies I struggle with obtaining.

Jesus, you must not have wasted any dust.

I've wasted so much dust on bad mons and now I regret it because I FINALLY caught a raid TTar but now I've got no dust to spend on it!

Eh I'm OCD, once i got a million i don't let it get below that because it's a slippery slope. And i had 9 mons in gyms for the longest time before the change.

I think Lick / Hyper beam is the best for attacking.

Snorlax is meant to be a defender. Can he get the job done on offense? Oh yes! But compared to the best options for particular match ups, he's lacking.

I have a 96 lick/hb maxed to me (level 37 trainer) with almost 1,000 wins... And he got my 1st fast tm. He lives in my home gym... STILL! Because screw this gym meta!!!

With that said, here's a couple thoughts:
1. Body Slam on a Snorlax is one of the most punishing defensive moves in the game! It is also legacy as you know!
2. Fast TMs are a guaranteed swap to your move of choice (seeing how only 2 options exist).

  1. Body Slam is a great offensive move as well! So, if you want you could teach lick to the body slam Snorlax and switch back to ZH at a later time and would only cost 2 fast TMs.

Thank you for your response. I'm happy with the movesets on each one because zen headbutt charges body slam faster and lick is perfect on offense and a one bar move like hyper beam. I ask because with the new system is it even worth powering either one up.

You have to answer if it's worth it to YOU. Snorlax is my favorite hands down. So, for me the answer is easy.
Most of my 1st reply was considering the (poor) meta we are currently stuck in. The gym system right now is so bad that even elite defenders like Snorlax aren't really important.

It's more important to have higher level attackers right now because of raiding. For that reason and because the gym system is trash right now then maybe it's only worth it if adding a tank attacker would help out your lineup. It's usually way better to use something more suited for the specific battle though.

You can easily attack with the BS one for now until they fix the gyms, so if you do power 1 up I'd pick him assuming the IVs are similar. L/HB is awesome for attacking, but I'd rather have a defender Snorlax.
