Which pokemons do You power up?

Which pokemons do You power up?

Are defensive optimal movesets or optimal offensive movesets more worth for powering up?

For example I got finally to evolve my charizard and blastoise, both are +90% IV

Blastoise had the optimal moveset for defence

water gun - Flash cannon

Charizard got wing attack - flamethrower

Charizard got also best defensive moves (but 2nd offense also)

I was dissapointed because I don't get the optimam offensive movesets. But thinking that maybe this also isn't that bad, especially the charizard.

Would You power one of these guys up, or wait for another. Thinking that It wil take months for sure before I got another one, but I got still a squirtle and charmander with +90IV in my pokedex.

So what do You like the most for Your rare pokemons? The best offensive or the best defenive moveset?

Man, I don't a hoot. If you like a Pokemon power that shit up.

I have a Charizard with 93.9% IV, but it has the best offensive set (wing attack+fire blast). Yeah it's less necessary to power up your attackers, but I wanted a powerhouse to always rely on when needed. Also Charizard is badass, so I happily dumped a good amount of star dust into it.

If you enjoy a Pokemon and it has at least strong IVs I say go for it. Also after the update a while back, higher IVs will be tougher to come by. Not saying there isn't use for patience, of course, but live a little.

It depends on the pokemon, I usually like to have ones with 2 moves of the same type (preferably the best moves of that type too) and the same type as the pokemon. The reasoning is... when you fight in a gym, you are looking to get type advantage. For defending pokemon, it's better to have the optimal moveset for defense, and I've found defensive pokemon are the ones that it's more necesary to power up, as the higher their CP, the higher they are in the Gym and the longer they stay in it.

The answer depends on your personal play style. I for one don't care about defensive movesets. Defending in general in this game is hopeless; a determined attacker will take over your gym regardless of what you put in there. And, it's not like he/she will be able to know ahead of time whether your Blastoise has flash cannon or hydro pump, which is why Pokemon type and CP are much better deterrents than moveset.

Back to the point, so long as a Pokemon has a decent IV and decent to good offensive potential, I'll power it up. However, neither Charizard nor Blastoise are the best of their types. I would prioritize powering up an Arcanine and a Vaporeon if you have them. If not, and you're looking to fill a fire or water hole in your lineup, then go with these two.

Funny - I feel the exact opposite! Since attacking is so easy I only power up my defenders. At least this way they stay near the top of the gym ;)

I think you should power up your Charizard, but not your Blastoise. "Water Gun" dosen't work well in gyms, that's its best defensive moveset becouse "Bite" is equally bad and doesn't get STAB.

Personally, I only power up 3 attackers, and my 10 top defenders. Everything else I leave at whatever level I got them/hatched them at.

Taking down gyms is pretty easy, and you only need 3 big attackers to do that. You can use fodder for taking down gyms and having fully powered creatures isn't that important. Three top tier attackers is really all you need... a water, a fire, and a grass and you are pretty much set.

The hardest part of the game is boosting up gyms and for that you really need small creatures to effectively make it cost effective.

My most valuable creatures are in the 800 CP to 1400 CP range. I try to get a lot of really great creatures in this range with the best possible attack moves and I never power them up as they are extremely useful for boosting up gyms.

For example, I have a 873 CP Omaster that is 82% perfect with Mud Shot/Hydro Pump that can easily take down 1 Arcanine in the 873 to 2700 CP range. I often get 1,000 prestige per battle with him, and I can sometimes take 2 fire based creatures at a time if they are right next to each other getting anywhere from 1,300 to 2,000 prestige at a time.

Last night I boosted a local gym by 20,000 prestige with my Omaster versus a 2,200 CP Arcanine in about 10 to 15 minutes. I was getting 1,000 prestige per encounter and each encounter was costing me 3 small potions.

Sometimes creatures are far more useful at lower levels than at higher levels.

So I wouldn't bother powering up any of those creatures to be honest. Blastoise and Charizard aren't great defenders. They will never be very useful for defending. Save your stardust for you 3 top tier attackers and your 10 top tier defenders, and leave everything else as you found/hatched it.

Just don't grind them into dust! The biggest mistake you can make in Pokemongo in my opinion is not hanging on to fully evolved low level creatures.

I'm going to just go ahead and second this.

Thanks for saving me the time so I didn't have to write it out ;)

Only thing I'd add is that for defending Pokemon when you're deciding who to power up, IV is most important. You want your guys at the top of the gym

I've been powering up: Dragonite, Lapras, Snorlax, Exeggutor, Arcanine, Vaporeon, Polywrath, Wigglytuff, Slowbro and Gyarados. Most of them have IV + 90%. Currently I'm not planning on powering up other Pokémon because I don't feel like they're worth it.
