Which one is the better choice for powering up?

I would go with the Defense (2316) one since I feel like hitting a defensive breakpoint will save you a lot more hitpoints than one HP IV which may or may not give you 1 extra Hitpoint.

Kyogre is still around for awhile. Why not continue to try? I caught my best one today after lots of Kyogre raids (93% 15 attack), but then caught a 98% (14 HP) immediately after.

How many raid have you done until you got that 97%? I settle with 1-2 raids per day (total of 24 kyogre raid until now) but never see anything greater than 95%. Maybe i didnt raid enough?

25th Kyogre got me it (Maybe you just need one more?); However, before today my best ones were 89% 15 attacks and one 91% 13 attack. Today I got very lucky - did two Kyogres and both were better than my best.

Would rather have had that 100% that was on my other phone though lol.

You! You are a prophet! Today I did the 25th kyogre raid and bam! 2323. Caught it with 3 balls. Funny how these thing hapen huh? :)

Sometimes, you just get lucky. I saw a perfect one on my fourth raid, it ran, but if I'd caught it, I'd just be raiding get enough candy to power it up.

People that I know of, who raid all day, every day, eventually encounter enough beast-of-the-month to not only see, but catch a perfect one. I think the odds are something like 1 out of 200 for perfect, 1 out of a 100 for 98, and down from there.

So, if you'll only accept a perfect, be ready to do several hundred raids. If you just want something over 90%, maybe doing 50 raids would be enough that the chance of not getting your desired result would be vanishingly small.

If you figure Kyogre is Kyogre, and stop when you get one, catching one out of ten raids, would probably be a safe margin.

Should be 1/256 - but this is all theoretical. I've done something like that many raids and haven't encountered one yet, though I have encountered lots of 98s which is still neat.

I just caught a 100 on an alternate account that has done 13 Kyogre raids.

Chance of getting a 98 is three times higher than getting a 100, so 1/72

Similar story here. I encountered a perfect one on my 4th raid (escaped) and the very next raid caught a 98%. Just yesterday caught a weather boosted 14/14/15 (25th. raid). In between I caught a couple of 91%ers. With Groudon, it took me 52 raids to get the perfect one. In my opinion, if you raid much, some day you will certainly encounter 96% and above.

It's just rng buddy, my very first Kyogre raid on its first day was 95.6% with 15 attack. Then just 3 raids later I caught a 98% one. Entei I did over 30 and never saw one over 93%.

As for the op, wait, there's still 2 weeks to go, you've every chance of getting an even better one.

I believe both will perform virtually the same. If you want a glowing cp, go for the 2318 one. I have one exactly the same and now it is a monstrous 3525 at level 31. Personnally, i would power both since kyogre is too good.

This user is right - this is really splitting hairs lol. The only reason we do this is because, aside from moves and stardust cost, it's the only thing that is permanent that we can really control.

Keep in mind though that one more really good legendary is still on the way (Rayquaza). After that we should have a period of legendaries that don't necessarily need to be maxed (Latis will be great dodge-weavers but won't be essential mons to teams like the weather trio)
