Which defender to power up?

All they are level 20:

Tentacruel, 97.8% IVs, PJ/Bliz;
Poliwrath, 93.3% IVs, B/IP;
Venusaur, 91.1% IVs, VW/SoB;
Golem, 100% IVs, RT/AP.

Whats your opinion about to max out some of these? which one and why?.

As a pure defender I'd definitely power up the Poliwrath (I have a 87% one with the same moveset which I brought to 2000+ CP), and maybe the Tentacruel too if you can afford it stardust-wise.

That Venusaur looks amazing for attacking though! I'd surely power it up just to destroy Vaporeons.

i pref venasur cause you can attack with him too golem no because everyone has vaporeon and the water type destroys earth and rock.

Tentacruel is quite cool.
It is not seen so often on gyms, so attacker does not instinctivly know which pkm to chose. When finally chosing a grass, he will be punished with blizzard.

Poli:
Punishes grasses same way as Tentacruel, but without surprise effect. Has the strongest defending quick attack in game.

Problem with both, Poli and Tenta: Low cp and thus, low position in gym. Other fact to mention: Ice charged attack has no stab on both. So it is more the psychological effect attacking with a grass and seeing ice and "very effective", not the real power. A stab-move would be as effective but less frightening.

Venus - I would love to have yours, and i would power it to max. Then, i would use it as attacker into vaps, polis and slowbros.

Golem - No defender at all. Double weak to Water. Unfortunately worst attacking moveset at all. Just a very unlucky case.

Tentacruel: Iffy on powering him for defense. He's only Tier 3, but he's really tanky and not commonly seen so you might catch some people off guard. For attack if you haven't got a Lapras or Cloyser, that mon could make a decent SW Dragonite counter, I'd probably power him up for that.

Poliwrath: Yes.

Venusaur: That's an attack Venusaur, not a defense one. I'd power him up, but I'd do it to wreck all the Vaporeons in Gyms.

Golem: Double weakness to water says no, and that's not a useful attacking moveset.

Thanks for your opinion, guys!.

I wonder, why "androgynous" has not shared his insightful thoughts with you yet. He could easily have written another one-pager with all his barely structured pokemon-go-knowledge, just elegantly touching the edge of your question. Maybe, you have criticized him too harshly last time? :-)

I wish i had not offended him, but to be honest i never thought that i would see this kind of children here in the forum. When i asked him to print some post where i said "shitty information" to new players, he disapeared. He just used to write long texts with confuse information, when trainers are just asking for a power up opinion or something else. I will still active and trying to do my best here.

As i remember, he started to do so, without any reason. Don't worry about that too much.

This is what i noticed too.

Happy to read this. :-) Don't worry about him, strange people are out there everywhere.

Have a nice weekend then!

Basically half your comments on powering up come down to "be patient and wait for one with better IVs".

I did not "start" anything. You were posting that crap long before I responded in that manner, and I'm not the only one who shares that opinion, I'm just the only one who voiced it.

In what way did this barely literate person criticise me? Unfortunately both responses I made to the Alakazam post did not go through due to the site being iffy, and I couldn't be arsed making another one.

But to sum it up, you did not address the point I made which was that people play the game for different reasons. Who are you to decide whether someone should power up their Pokemon or not, not everyone plays the same way that you do, some people use niche Pokemon, some people don't care about IVs et cetera.

Just because you don't think about all the possible factors that go into why someone should or should not invest resources into their Pokemon doesn't mean those factors don't exist, the only one that you think about is how good the Pokemon is on a tier list.

If reading is too difficult to you, that's not my problem.

Not the Venusaur and Golem, because one is a good attacker and the other is just too easy for water to take out. I might throw some dust at the Poliwrath because bubble is good, and ice punch is a nice surprise move since most won't expect it. On the Tentacruel, while it would be great vs grass types I'm not so sure with it's lower Stamina. Stat-wise, Poliwrath is much better balanced.

I would disagree here. Balance in def/sta is not important afaik.
For survival-time (and thus, damage delt before faint) the product of stamina and defense is relevant. This way, Tentacruel is slightly (ca. 10%) better than poly.

Stamina-based Effective Health gives more charged moves, because the damage a pkm gets, charges its energy.

Def-based Effective Health givs less charged moves, but is more potion-efficient.

Venusaur for sure!
Than Poliwrath and maybe Tentacruel if you have a lot of stardust.
Golem has double weakness, so I'd prefer waiting for a MS/EQ one.

I'm a big fan of ice moves in gyms. I'm assuming many players are attacking with multiple dragonites this far into the game regardless of defender lineup(unless it's lapras).

Tentacruel trips them up at least. Jab isn't resisted and blizzard is a pain. Not seen often and most likely underestimated, they may even try to steamroll through him and tank a blizzard without even thinking about it.

Also he is just plain cool.

Edit:it says which defender but I'm sure you meant which to power in general after thinking about it. After maxing a Venusaur with vw/sb I've used it constantly against the slew of vaporeons after cp change. It is fantastic, can't recommend it enough if you don't have one.

Your Golem may not have a strong moveset, but it is probably its coolest-looking moveset. If I had that Golem I'd use it all the time, against anything I thought he could beat.

The appeal of Pokémon for me is largely aesthetic anyway, and knowing he's 100% would make me enjoy the dance that much more :)
