Which buddy do you choose when you have enough candy?

I've already gotten enough candy of the main mons (e.g. 2x Dragonite, 2x Tyranitar) to bring them to max and evolve a few more just in case, who is your go to option to choose as a buddy? (I know it's an eviable problem to have, but I'm still not sure what to do!)
Maybe I should choose one of the legendaries, but the distances are so long I can't help but feel my walking could be better done elsewhere! Help!

Pidgeotto. And I am serious. Want to level up as soon as possible.

Pidgey 10 CP for the same reasoning as relvix mentioned above.

The only other Pokemon I walk is eevee when I need an Espeon. But other than that, pidgey all the way.

For me the answer is a simple question: What is the most rare mon for you? In my case is Lapras so I walk him. Legendaries are not a viable option because 20km per candy is just toooo much. I think pidgey/caterpie and others for mass evolve are also a bad choice, just because you can only get 500 or 1000xp (with lucky egg) per each 11km walked with them, so it is not a huge benefit at all.

My choice will always be something like Dratini/Chansey/Lapras/Snorlax/Tyranitar/Mareep/Porygon and similar mon that are hard or very hard to find in the wild depending on your are. You never know when you may need those mon candies (of course this does not apply if you have hundreds of them)

I am doing magikarp at the moment because I don't see many and at 1km it is a nice candy to collect.
When I have a few more magikarp candy stored I will probably switch to pidgey.

I'm walking Geodude at the moment to evolve and power up more Golems.

When buddies first came out I did charmander because it was my starter. Then I did Lapras when I hatched for a couple of months, then when Gen 2 came out I was lucky enough to get a Larvitar in the first week and he (eventually a TTar) has been my buddy ever since, still trying to max him out. Once maxed I'll probably go back to Lapras because I got a perfect one last spring that I want to max.

I only walk dratini, snorlax ot larvitar now. I really don't get the pidgey walking thing. You can go almost anywhere and get them. I have around 2,600 pidgey candies right now without walking it. Why not get candies for a useful pokemon?

I was going through the same thing a while back. Walked Larvitar for 500 km to get my first Tyranitar. Then Raids happened and got enough candies to power up an extra. Walked Chansey for about the same with some hatches in between and have two maxed out Blisseys now. Before then I walked Machamp, Snorlax and Lapras but thanks to Raids , those are no longer needed to get candies. Currently I'm walking my Porygon 2. Just going to keep walking it until I get at least 200 candies in case it requires 100 additional candies to evolve it later on and use the other 100 for powering it up. It's no longer a 5km per candy buddy either. It's 3km per candy .

I'd walk Zapdos if I had enough larvitar candy.
Until gen 3 or mewtwo don't have anything better to walk

Since my dex is full except most regionals and the unreleased and with the addition of rare candies I can't bring myself to walk the 5k buddies anymore.

I too am walking the Geordie line because they're pretty rare in my area, the candies are useful, its only 1k, and I recently hatched my second 95% - the first one is already maxed.

Also one legacy golem is my oldest mon, so that feels right.

Geodude. Candies are useful, they aren't too common where I am, aren't raid bosses and aren't worth using rare candies on since it's only 1 km a candy.

Whereas something like Tyranitar I'm okay with using a rare candy on, plus it shows up as a raid boss.

I have candy for everything so right now I'm walking Porygon2 as I have never hatched one and the only candy I got was from Vday event and a few rare candies to evolve. Would like to get to 100 for when Gen4 rolls I can evolve right away and be done with it.

Funny thing about biomes — I have 18 Golems (have transferred a few and am a bit of a hoarder) and 700 candies at the moment. For me, Magikarp is my go-to 1-km walker, although at the moment I'm walking my Tyranitar. Might start the karp again soon though.

I walked my first magikarp buddy through Halloween, when the candy bonuses helped me get to 400 plus some to power-up. I got enough for two more after the water event. Without those events I'd probably just have one Gary.

Geodude family for me.
I have the same thinking as you, legendaries 20km/candy is so not worth the leg work.
Already lvl 40, so do not need those pidgeys and besides, pidgeys are everywhere.
Golem on the other hand are great counters for quite a number of legendaries to date, so it won't harm to have more golem candies.
