When do you all think they lift level 40 cap?
TL;DR Would you guys use this double double time to rack up dust for future gen evos or level your 39 and rack up xp to get to 40 however way real fast (only to waste future xp gains later after 40 until they lift the cap)?
When do you all think they will lift the cap? The reason why I am asking is because during this double double event, I am at 39 heading towards 40, but wonder if I should focus on racking up dust now for future gen evos, or work on getting to 40, evolving tons of low level catches on the fly while raiding and racking up xp to get to 40 faster only to end up waiting once at 40 for the cap to be lifted --
wasting any future xp gains at 40.
I have a TON of low level mon candy (like 1500 natus, 1500 rattatas) that I can use up to evolve catches on the fly during a lucky egg throw, but haven't been because I sort of don't want to get to 40 too quickly and not really have a goal after.
BUT, I would hate for the cap to be lifted with the next gen coming out soon, and then not have been using the double xp time wisely. I would then have to work double hard after the event ends to get to 40, because I have 4 million more to go.
Am I making sense? I would like to save these low level candies for evolving later perhaps once the cap has been lifted to move up then if that is better.
On a related note, or do you think they will proactively place your trainer at the appropriate level based on total xp accumulated throughout its lifetime even after 40 (like a jump to 45 or whatever for those that reached 40 months ago)?
What would you guys do? Hurry to 40 or no?

I think they will raise the cap. It would have been smart for them to raise it a long time ago. Most level 40 players aren't free players and niantic is a business looking to make money. I'm sure people cut down on their spending or just stop playing altogether when they hit 40 and that's bad for business
1. No idea when the cap may be lifted but I could see it around Christmas. Just a guess.
2. I’m not sure that I understand your worry. If you must only concentrate on one resource I would always opt for dust. With that said, the most likely way that the “cap is lifted” is that the amount of dust needed per level will change. Such that for example the XP needed now for lv 37 would put you at lv 40. The folks at exactly 40 would be around lv 43. Then the distance from say 45-50 would be a monumental task similar to what 37-40 was. If it isn’t done this way new players would give up. No new player surrounded by 45s would even try to catch up and quit
Honestly, a lot of it is going to depend on how they raise the cap too.
I played a Lot of MMOs, like EQ and WOW, that raised level caps. They never let people xp store unlimited above the level cap. This forced them basically to start just over the next level.
IE: Let's say level 40 is 5 million like 39. And it takes 20 million to get to level 40. Then when you ding 41, it sets you at 45 million. Regardless if you are already at 90 million and ready to hit the new cap instantly.
Now, this isn't a suggestion for something bad to happen to the super 40s. It's just an observation on how MMOs handle raising the level cap.
You can ding instantly to next level, but have to grind the rest.
Other than reaching level 20 and 30 quickly, there is no point in reaching a higher level if you don't have the stardust or the desire to power up pokemon to that level. If the power up costs and CP gains from 30-40 continue for 40-50, then it will be incredibly expensive for very little gain. It is already hardly worth powering most pokemon too much higher than low to mid 30s.
