What's your opinion on Pvp? I'm sharing mine (incomplete)
I’d love to share my personal thought about Pvp and hear out your opinion.
1) Pvp, Fight without Clock, switching from DPS to TDO.
Unlike Raids or Gyms battles Pvp battles don’t have a timer pushing you, so for Pvp player will be switching from best DPS Pokémon towards best TDO Pokémon. So most of the Pokemon that we’ve been powering up until now will become unfavorite. In Ultra League for example a Cresselia will be favorite as TDO to Mewtwo.
Is it worthed to power up a TDO Pokemon just for Pvp while using others for Gyms and Raids?
2) Ivs, the upside-down trend.
While a 100ivs Pokemon will be always the favorite in Master League, the Cp cap will change the trend for Great and Ultra League.
Higher CP means higher level of Pokemon only if Ivs are lower.
That means for Great League that:
A 100 iv Blissey will be at level 19 with 1497 CP.
A 0 iv Blissey will be at level 22.5 with 1499 CP.
A 66.67 Iv (0 Atk/15/15) Blissey will be at level 21 with 1482 CP.
Both of 0 and 66.67 Blissey will perform better in TDO the 100 ones. Capping the CP you want the Ivs to go down to squeeze out those extra level gaining more bulk.
Is it wort to spend candy and dust in low iv Pokemon just for two Leagues of Pvp?
(Out there you can find better analysis than this one)
3) TDO Queen, Blissey.
In Master League Lugia will take the crown with 667,6 TDO and Metagross (MeteroMash) will come in second place (621,7) Blissey will be placed “only” at the third place with 604,1 TDO
In Ultra League Blissey will have the higher TDO with 523,9, far above the second one, Cresselia with 415,4 TDO.
And in Great League with 249,1 it will be second only to Chansey with 257,6 TDO.
Far beyond Umbreon with 204,8 and Azumarill with 201,6.
So, while Metagross MM is quite common thanks to the double CD but useful only in Master League, Blissey remains the first choice for both Great and Ultra league, while being a valuable entry for Master League as well.
Blissey it’s easier to be found than Lugia, easier to power up (Blissey candies are more common), more useful as it could be placed In Gyms while Lugia couldn’t find a nice place in the meta neither for Gyms battling or Raids boss countering (with Machamp exeption).
3 Blissey team can outplay even a 3 Machamp (or Haryama) team as those are just too bulky and those fight Pokemon are just too easy to counter with a Lugia or Metagros MM in Master League or a Psychic Pokémon for the other Leagues.
So Blissey in going to be the top choice for Pvp?
Should we be expecting a 3 Chansey team for Great, 3 Blissey teamFor Ultra? Or Blissey, Blissey and Lugia or Metagross MM in Master?
4) Who would really play Pvp?
Let’s think about it.
It’s a nice new feature, but after 5/6 battle with a friend, you’ll get bored.
Even after trying all the possible matchups and strategies, it will be no point in it.
Who want to keep battling? The one with best TDO Pokemon will always win.
There’s no ranking, no random match up, no competitive game play to push you towards Pvp.
Just a reward for both winning or losing the match.
First, you’ll get the same reward just by fighting AI as Teams Leader so it’ll be useless to reach out another Player, second, even if you want just the reward, well, a 3 Pichu team will do the job to make the battle as quickly as possible. Painless and time saving.
5) Conclusion
Aside from some casual fun with playing it with friends, without a competitive mode or random matchups Pvp seems to me to be just another daily action.
Catch a Pokemon, Spin a Pokestop.
Get a quest done, battle in a Raid.
Gift to send ad open.
Battling to AI Team Leader to get reward.
Oh Yeah, it will be finally possible to Golden the Ace Trainer Medal.

The vast majority of people will battle in the league that gives the best rewards ( if there is a difference in rewards ) for the 3 times that rewards are given and once against a team leader for the reward.... of course in the beginning people will go completely nuts just like they did in the beginning of gifts and trading for lucky Pokémon and the mania will slowly but surely die away ..... I know everyone is trying to blow PVP up into some sort of super complex and detailed thing like the main series games... but it ain’t going to be, because Niantic, the vast majority of players and Nintendo don’t want it
Maxing stuff is an exhausting chore...even if it became lucky. Chances are it’ll never help you do anything previously worth doing. Taking something to 1500 or 2500 a lot more pleasant, and now it can help you do something...whether that something is hugely worthwhile or just a sitting on the living room couch time filler.
I, for one, don't think the meta will be completely dominated by TDO tanks. Maybe I'm just naive, bit I feel like this is something that Niantic has thought a lot about and even completely adjusted the CP formula to nerf Blissey.
However, even if Blissey becomes the ultimate unstoppable boss, you and your friend can just agree to not use Blissey. You can set your own rules like no legendaries, unevolved forms only, only one type per trainer, only Pokemon that start with the letter A, or anything. I don't think PvP will get stale. I think people will get creative and competitive enough to make it work.
At the least, my son turns 4 next week, he "has" a level 38 account. I can start him with a max Mewtwo, Kyogre, Rayquaza. He'll randomly press buttons. I can give my loads better account a Shadowball+Dazzling gleam Alakazam, a max Dragon+Solar beam Latios, and a frenzy plant meganium...may the best player win.***As it stands at home he'll catch stuff that spawn in the living room, then out of boredom power/evolve things, then click on the gym that is in sight and pretend he is battling (tap, tap, tap).
Wait,
"3 Blissey team can outplay even a 3 Machamp (or Haryama) team as those are just too bulky and those fight Pokemon are just too easy to counter with a Lugia or Metagros MM in Master League "
You said it's a 3-man Blissey team, but if the opponent had Machamps, you can just use a Lugia? Are you confused about the fact that you're stuck to those 3 Blissey during that battle?
Something's not right in your description.
(There may even be a limit per one type of Pokemon in each battle)
I'm not sure why you're drawing conclusioms since we don't know everything yet. Hold your horses. Rewards are a thing.
It's been about 15 months since raids came out and most people still enjoy them, yet you think customized 3on3 battles after going to get tiresome after one day?
What the hell after you smoking?
I agree. The ppl spamming blissey are going to get torn apart by all the people that have the machamp that take down blissey in gyms now.
Teams with balanced type effectiveness will win over high defence stats.
Also I see CP as an expression of a mons total stats, so a 1500 mon would perform the same regardless of what level it ends up being
Given that the time to charge a charge move seems to be move dependent and not dependent on EPS or damage received, why are people shitting on 0 atk? It doesn't appear that will charge the enemy move faster. I understand the concern about ATK adding to total CP value, but I would assume (as I believe aeronaut63 has mentioned) that optimal ATK IV will depend on general stat shape.
