What’s your approach this weekend?
Gamepress has a great article on the community weekend, but obviously the situation is different for every trainer. Personally, I’m focused primarily on Larvitar because I want to get 2 to 3 more powered up Tyranitars with Smack Down and am short on candies. Second priority is getting more shiny eevees because I mostly missed that event due to travel and only have two shinies currently, which I obtained after the event. Third is charmander because I have 2 100’s and a 98 from research rewards that I want Blast Burn for (although I’m not likely to power all three up).
I have a ridiculous number of Metagrosses from the last CD, where I was fortunate enough to attend both the US and Asia days due to my travel schedule working out, so bedlum is not a priority. Same for Venasaur.
I plan on getting up early Saturday (5am Asia) in case the first hour is boosted (plus I’m an early riser).
I’m interested in hearing others’ plans.

I'm going to be prioritising Larvitar for the same reasons as you, and Beldum will be next as a couple more decent Meteor Mash Metagross would be nice.
As I'm in the UK, the event will be starting at 21:00 on the Friday and ending on the Monday morning at 07:00am, so my plan is to pull 3 consecutive all-nighters (with help from my friends). Will be maxing out my Pokemon storage space for trading fodder, and very much hoping the weather isn't too bad (mainly because I'd rather have the in-game weather as partly cloudy or windy instead of raining).
I'm taking it semi-easy.
I finished all of the community days this year with satisfactory numbers/IVs of all the special move Pokemon. More candy is definitely going to be useful for Larvitar and Beldum though.
I have all the shinies as well, but fairly low numbers for Dratini and Charmander so hoping to get at least a few more of those.
My main priority is just to evolve all the Beldums, Larvitars and Bulbasaurs with great IVs that I've gotten since their CDs.
I did pretty well in all CDs so far and don't have much time to play this weekend, so I'll pinap Larvitars and Beldums when I can (want to evolve more shinies for potential trading) and let go plus handle things otherwise.
I've still been trying to figure that out.
Pikachu - I got the shiny and never cared about the move. But I might try to get one shiny for my daughter's account.
Dratini - my shiny Dratini is decent and so is my Draco Meteor Dragonite. But I've never done anything with either of them. I might try to grind this for my daughter as she could use the candy and doesn't have the Dragon badge yet.
Bulbasaur - I have a high IV high level Bulba to evolve into my 4th FP example. My shiny is high IV. But getting this move and shiny for my daughter is a high priority.
Mareep - my daughter needs this shiny. I might not even click on a sheep the whole event, except perhaps to grind dust.
Charmander - this is one I need. My shinies from that event were all below 20% and I had transferred them long before trading was a thing. But I'm good on the move. My daughter has a high level shiny Charizard, so she wont need anything but a bit of candy here.
Larvitar - I dont think either account needs more shiny Larvas or more SD ttars. We went hard in that community day and we both are sitting on lots of candy as well, thanks to prevalent ttar raids.
Squirtle - both account have all the turtles we could ever need. Assuming they don't introduce the Squad Leader variant.
Eevee - the move is trash, but one can never have too many shiny Eevee. I'll be looking for high IV ones and crappy ones to trade for the reroll.
Chikorita - pass.
Beldum - my daughter could use more candy. I have two more ready to be evolved including one shiny/lucky. This is the high point of the event for me.
Cyndaquil - falls into the same category as Mareep, Squirtle, and Chikorita, but here I could use more candy as I burned it all evolving the ones I'd caught during that CD. It is a good Defender ATM and who knows when it might get a better fast move.
I'd love to get more Shinies like everyone else. I did not get Beldum and I was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean for Charmander so those are the ones I really want. Needless to say I need some BB Charizard and I have 601 candies and 2 high IV high lvl Charmander so I am happy about that. Would like to add 2 more Venusaur at least, and 2 more Ttar and Metagross. Basically in a perfect world come out with 4-6 of the mons that are useful total. I do not think I want more DM dratini as I have 2 with outrage 2 with hurricane and 1 with DM but maybe I will evolve 1 so I have 2 of all three.
I don't think literally "everyone" wants more shinies. I don't, and I know most hardcores in my city also don't want more, they're already drowning in their CD shinies from past events.
But I hope you have good luck scoring the shinies you're missing. This really is a great event to give a second chance to people who missed the first rounds of these pokemon.
Bulb - have 2 98s including L35 lucky and a 100 IV to evolve. 1500+ candy. Shiny check only
Charm - have 98 to evolve. Need more candy and better shiny. Minor grinding.
Squirtle - meh, shiny check?
Pikachu - meh, shiny check?
Eevee - shiny check only?
Dratini - missed CD, no shinies, low candy. Grind hard.
Chiko - meh, shiny check
Cynda - meh, shiny check
Mareep - meh, shiny check
Larv - 4 SD already. Best shiny is 2nd tier. Grind.
Beldum - have 4 MM already. Best shiny is 2nd tier. Have 3 lucky beldum. Need candy. Grind.
Couldn't catch a single shiny Bulbasaur on CD despite catching 120+ and only caught 2 shiny Eevees (couldn't play a lot for that one). So I'll be IV checking those and catching some regulars without pinap to replenish my candy reserves. A 3rd FP Venusaur would be nice, but not necessary.
Larvitar and Metagross: I could only get one of each with the CD move and I am low on candy (cannot get anyone to raid the few Tyranitar raids I can see here). I will pinap and catch every one of them I can find. I will not evolve more than 2-3 of each to save candy to power them up. I'll decide on the evolutions on sunday evening anyway.
I may catch some Charmander without pinap (reserved for Beldum and Larvitar) for candy.
No interest in any other. I've got what I need. I won't catch them in order to save balls and berries.
Weather is not going to play for me. Maybe it's going to be cloudy on friday night, boosting Bulbasaurs, but after that it will be raining all week-end :'( Gotta take out that umbrella and hope Mareep and Squirtle spawns will not eclipse every other.
I am not sure how much time I am going to put in on Pokemon this week-end as (1) I am going to be unavailable for a lot of the week-end and (2) for the most part happy enough with my roster of community day move pokemon.
When the announcement came out I took a look and decided my top priority would be to try to get a higher IV vinewhip venusaur as my best one was only a 91IV. Well, I caught a 96IV bulbasaur last night so I will evolve it during the week-end and that takes care of that.
Which pretty much leaves me just focusing on grabbing dratini, larvitars and beldums for candy.
Larvitar: Short on candy after maxing out a raided 96% with Bi/Cr. Hoping for another 96+% to max out after the event. During event, raids are the more candy-efficient way to earn SD/SE. Will catch and Pinap 'em all, but no need for more shinies.
Beldum: Although I have 900 candy, I can never have enough. During the original CD, I caught only three 91+% Beldums (but one was perfect), so I will be seeking more 91+% ones to evolve. Will catch and Pinap 'em all, but no need for more shinies.
Dratini: Used to be common in my biome, but only have one 96+% (and just enough candy to max it out). Missed the original CD, so seeking shinies and hopefully another 96+% one that will make Pinaping them all worth the trouble.
Bulbasaur: A month before CDs were introduced, I hatched and immediately evolved one (as it is my favourite starter).
Charmander: 91+% ones and shinies would be a nice bonus, but I can do without them.
Squirtle: Earned enough shinies from the original CD. The exclusive move is just for collection. More sunglasses please!
Pikachu: Missed the original CD. The exclusive move and shiny are just for collecting.
Mareep: Earned everything I wanted from the original CD. Will catch it just for the dust.
Cyndaquil: Missed the original CD. The exclusive move and shiny are just for collecting.
Chikorita: Missed the original CD. The exclusive move and shiny are just for collecting.
Eevee: Missed the original CD, but they are far from rare and I have since found two shinies.
I need 3 more MMM if possible, 3-6 Ttar, if possible. (Have high level ones, but very low IV - just evolved my level 30s from June), 5 more FP Venusaur, and 5 more BB Charizard. That'll give me teams of each, and isn't unreasonable IF they activate all the event spawn points and I'm able to get out. The biome leans heavy on Grass and Fire types. Otherwise, I have passable Rock, Grass/Water (as they mostly cover each other), and Fire teams with a mixture of top and second/third choice counters; it's those Metagross I'm really hoping for.
Also missing shiny Cyndaquil, Charmander, and Mareep families. RNG was not kind to me.
I'll catch everything for dust, as that's what I do anyway. EDIT: Also, more Dratini candies would be nice, but I have a full team of mixed Dragonite/Rayquaza. One Charge TM would let me substitute my 98 with HB in for my 89 (sameish level) with DM instead.
I pretty much have full teams of six for the important ones already. I'm gonna be spending the weekend getting candies and seeking higher-IV versions where applicable since I had to settle for sub-par IVs on some days.
I'm fortunate that my worst MM Metagross is 89%, so Beldums will pretty much be caught exclusively for candy unless I find a high-IV shiny or something.
I only have a few FP Venusaur and my upper 90% Bulbas are all L15 or lower so candy will be a must unless I find higher CP ones with comparable IVs.
Charizard is similar in that my best IV ones are very low level and on CD I resorted to evolving higher level, crap IV ones for immediate use. Hopefully I can find better ones or at least rake in loads of candy.
Everything else will basically be a candy and dust grind. Rev up those pinaps and star pieces.
