What would you do?

So, I have two Snorlax
A) CP 1946, 89% 15/13/12 with ZH/EQ
B) CP 1914, 98% 15/15/14 with LI/HB

I have 35 candies. I want to powerup for defending rather than attacking because I use other mons for taking down gyms. Correct me if I'm wrong but according to my own research, it seems that A is the logical choice for defense as it seems its not far off from the ideal ZH/BS or HB. but B is 98%...

I get #2 is 98% but number one isn't that far behind at 89%.

That 9 percent gets far less different when you realize its just 3 total points of IV. And a maxed Snorlax has 700 points worth of Base Stats. So 3/700 is less 1/2 a percent difference.

The Move difference for Defense is worth more than the IV difference.

Yeah but that half a percent difference translates to a ~ 30CP, which is half a level difference past 30 and can really effect your gym placement amongst other snorlax and rhydon

Vuviper got a downvote but honestly it's a good point. When powering up a defender, the difference between 89% and 98% will have an effect on your gym placement.

ZH is much better than Lick

I would power up the 98% one for sure!
Lick/BH is the best offensive moveset, but is ranked better than ZB/EQ also for defense.
So, no doubts, power up the near-perfect one ;)

According to Gamepress research B) is better on both offense and defense by moveset alone. Definitely power up that one.

Not only is the moveset better, but you'll feel like a champ when you have one of the highest compliment non-dragonites and you top a gym. B all the way.

Might as well flip a coin between those two. Unless you plan to use it on offense at all, then 2 is clear choice.

The thing with Snorlax is that he has no bad movesets. So, I would value IVs over moveset. As others have said, the 98% will have a huge CP and will let you sit on top of gyms more easily. Regardless of the moveset, he will be annoying to take down.

You would want to powerup both eventually. But i would start with A personally. Despite of what calcs say, Hyper beam is just not great charged move defensivly, having this one is 95% guarantee it would never hit attacker. While Earthquake isn't that much impressive either, it at least don't have that huge cooldown and prepare animation. And Lick is just so poor in defense, that I don't even dodge it, even when prestiging against lvl 30 and above Snorlax with something like Golduck with more than 2 times difference in CP. B, just have poor combination for defence. It's decent with BS, but not so much with other charged moves. It's good for attacking, though. Lick/HB is probably best combination for attack actually.

But you should't forget that both your Snorlaxes are good, you would want both of them powered up, as there are very few pokemon comparable with Snorlax, even with suboptimal moves and poor IV. Congratz to you for getting them. :)
