What should I do?

This website has been a great source of knowledge in the past for me. This is my first thread, and rather a sad one(for me).
It has more than six months since I left playing the game and I have returned to it just a few days back. Although I liked the game, I quitted because of the frustration of not getting an ex-raid pass, despite several tries as it is my favourite pokemon(Along with Charizard, Gengar and Darkrai). I mostly did T3 raids, as there only used to be few legitimate players playing, who used to rarely show up. Then exams came. 2 months gone. Noticed my phone is my now unable to keep up with the game. Took 4 more months to save up for a newer, better phone, being a student.
I live in the less privileged part of the city, with only 4 pokestops and 3 gyms(only one ex-eligible gym) within the radius 10 km( that also quite scattered) and there is not a single pokestop after that beyond 17 km. There are very no players who regularly show up and only a few playing, times if they ever show up. That is why I used to get few legendaries for each time and I do not even have a few( the max. no. of a single legendary pokemon I have is Groudon and Kyogre, 3 each).
Yet, despite these issues, I never bothered, because I can never get all the pokemons. Spawn density here is decent around the parks(grass type biome). The problem was always the lack of pokestops. My aim was very modest: to collect all pokemons I like, especially my favourite mons and meta relevant mons. The main way to get rare mons way to walk and collect candy.
When I returned to I was amazed, I saw a MEWTWO POP OUT OF A RAID EGG! I thought" Am I dreaming?". Then I, after visiting this site, got to know Mewtwo was introduced in raids for 30 days. 3 days left. 2 raid passes at hand. Zero coins.
I didn't get even one Mewtwo. Nobody even showed up, for 2 days. Last day. 7 people in lobby(probably spoofers, as I can only see one playing around). Guess what they brought to battle? Snorlax and Dragonite and even a few Blissey! Battle- Lost. I- Heartbroken.
Now, the game is getting boring for me. Why play when you cannot even get your favourite mons? I like this game. But every time I raid or battle a gym now, only one thought circulating in my mind, "Oh man, how good would a Mewtwo would have looked in my squad!". That would make me sad, very sad, even so sad that I feel like quitting, but I don't want to.
Thank you for going through all this. Life sometimes kicks hard.
Have you ever missed your favourite or a very important pokemon, which you regret? If yes, how did you stabilize and motivate yourself to keep play? What would you advice me, so that I can stop feeling bad and start enjoying it like I used to? Quitting like this is like playing the part of a loser for me. Looks like my only hope is that they bring out Mewtwo again(as many speculate, with psystrike), but I feel they won't do it, as it has the potential to make all other psychic mons absolutely obsolete and people will lose the incentive to grind for them, as Niantic is pretty profit-conscious. (Same with Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza.)
Thank you, again.

I missed Articuno the first time round. I got through it with the hope they'd bring it back/trading would eventually occur. And Lo! They did. In three different ways!

But isn't Mewtwo a different case unlike other legendaries. Yes, trading has been added to the game, like I said, there are no regular players out here. Mewtwo was here for a long time, if we count the ex-raids.

Niantic needs to make money to stay alive. Saying that are profit-conscious is like saying, duh! You can’t survive if you don’t pay your people to make the game. Spending a couple dollars here and there will help. Anyways, I’m sure Mewtwo and the others will be release as a special research one day. They do cater to solo players. Although they prefer to keep it social.

Don't get me wrong. Being profit-conscious is not bad. I was just giving a reason why they may not bring mewtwo back soon.

My best advice for obtaining a Mewtwo at this point, is to reach out to any local Discord/Facebook/Slack/etc groups and see if anyone is willing to trade you one. Some people probably raided them pretty heavily, and likely have several extras. Once you find someone willing to trade, add them as a friend in game, send/open gifts from them once a day for at least 30 days to hit ultra friends (that will make the Mewtwo special trade significantly less costly), then schedule a meet-up time and trade away.

If you've saved any Mons from July/August 2016 and you have fewer than 10 lucky Pokemon, trading one of those for the Mewtwo will result in a lucky Mewtwo (minimum of 12/12/12 IVs).

Again, there's a fair amount of people who raided Mewtwo a lot and should have plenty of extras. I'm sure if you share your story with them, you're bound to find someone who'd be willing to trade one to you (and hopefully trigger the lucky trade).

If your immediate area doesn't have a lot of active players, you may have to check with other groups in nearby areas and potentially venture out a bit for the trade. It can be worth it though, if Mewtwo is one of your favorites.

Good luck!

I have already tried to find local social groups, and seems like there is no coordinated group really.
Even if I find a player here, chances are that they will also not have many mewtwos because it is difficult to win raids when player density here is very less. I found a old player, and he had but 3 mewtwos, and was not willing to trade even the bad iv ones.
The game was launched in my country on 13 December, 2016. So, no guaranteed lucky mons for me.
Still will try to find out there are any groups near my college or nearby areas.

It all depends on what do you consider nearby and how far are you determined to venture in order to get yourself a Mewtwo.
If you check the closest largest city/-ies in your country I'm sure there will be organised groups. After that it's about finding a person willing to trade with you, so you could start building your friendship up to ultra friends at least. That would take you a month, then you could organise a date for a trip and do the trade.
Take it as a holiday trip.

If you want mewtwo that bad, I would say wait a bit. One of these days Niantic will release the shiny version, and that will be your chance. Ask the guy next to you to see if he is willing to trade. You have to be friend with the person for some time to get the stardust cost down to a reasonable level.

I hope that mewtwo will come back due to some reason or the other. The guy who was next to me had only 3 mewtwos, none he was willing to trade.

Yeah, the problem is that all the other players are badly acknowledged and do not know how to play the game. I also have the same case. Last time, my team of 9 barely finished a Mewtwo raid at 5 seconds left, and all because over half of the other players were all using Aggron.
Note: I was actually surprised to see you mentioning about Blissey here, because the last time I saw someone using Blissey in a legendary raid was last year (and I didn't even know GamePress then.)

There were 2 blisseys visible on my screen while raiding. I think they had not revived their other mons.

I'd say try and take a break from the game for a bit. I started during gen one but stopped after getting all the pokemon in my region before legendaries were introduced due to me living in a not even pokemon dense area and being a student as well. I've only recently gotten back into it due to gen 4 being released but I feel as if the break I had in between helped me enjoyed the game more since I was able to do other things.

I will take another break soon, as I have a exam coming within 2 months, probably after gengar day and ex-raid on 6th November ( really, despite me trying 100's of times for a mewtwo ex-raid pass, they never gave me any, but they gave me a ex-raid pass for deoxys, even if I have raided only 5 TIMES since 4 days).

Like what BlameScott said, your best bet at getting a Mewtwo would be via trading. But since you live in a pretty secluded area you'll probably have to trade with someone that is close enough for you to get to them and trade. The only legendary I have is a Giratina (Altered Forme) due to my university being located in the city where lots of raids occur.

This thread highlights the issues facing rural players. If you live in a place like yours (4 pokestops within 10 kms??) your aims gotta be very modest. Niantic do very little to help rural players.

I have to ask why you didn't continue following the game. I've quit for months at a time on two separate occasions but i continue to keep an eye on the news, just in case a good update occurs.

Mewtwo will come back again (psystrike/shiny verison) so i suggest you wait for that.

I am playing just to complete my few aims. Currently walking bagon, 11 candies shy of a salamance.
Really, I will quit again because of my exams. Seeing the course of events in the game, after my exams,( probably), I will consider the idea to quit(forever) or continue, depending upon events and whether if new features make the game better(like PvP-though I do not who will play with me) or not. Seems like I will have to quit, some day in near future as this game is too unfair for suburban and rural players, although technically I play in a city, but Niantic maps does not recognize the major landmarks here as pokestops or gyms. Let's see if I get a mewtwo, else I will unduly quit, although not happily or easily.
Sorry for a late reply.
