What is "shiny" magicarp/Gyrados?
As titles suggests. How do you tell if it's shiny? Does it have sparkly animation? Different color?
Also, how do you get the red Gyr? Do you need to evolve a shiny magicarp or have to catch it?

I would assume you'd have to evolve a shiny magikarp to get a shiny gyarados. The odds of finding a gyarados to begin with is so low it's not worth mentioning. That being said, the odds of getting one is up for debate. Back in the day the odds were about on par with getting a 100% IV pokemon. We will just have to see! :)
All the writing in the catch window that tells how much XP you got etc is red when you catch it
It looks normal on the screen until you engage it then you see it is a shiny so if it runs you know how bad to feel..
Then your palms sweat, and your finger wants to go too fast...and then you hold your breath...oh wait, forget that last bit, it may just be me.
I work night shift here in East Coast USA (Tampa, FL). Tonight was my night off. I was out from midnight until just about an hour ago (3:30am). I actually caught my 3rd wild Lapras in 35 levels. About 50% IV, but CP2000+ and had WG/HP. Caught a bunch of water mons. Three Omanytes, some Qwilfish (I needed those for pokedex), and about 30 Magicarp - No shiny! Dang! I had about 340 magicarp candy before event. So now I have enough to evolve my shiny magicarp if I ever find one. I work 13 hour shifts Sat-Tue so I only have Thu and Fri left to find my shiny magicarp. Otherwise I'll never see one. In my area I see about one Magicarp a week. I've had that 340 magicarp candy for about 3 months. lol
