Or simply rename the Pokemon that you want to trade so it shows first when your Pokemon are sorted in alphabetical order.

The new renaming limit makes that less viable, but renaming is/was definitely a good way to sort the tradeables.

Not to be a jerk but also just pay more attention? You have to search for the pokemon to trade, when you click it it shows a description of the pokemon, then you have to confirm. Just take an extra second to make sure

I've traded a few mons accidentally that the recipient already had as a lucky and a few times I've noticed from the trade screen that the unappraised mon I was about to trade had good IVs.

Favoriting everything really helps keep the important stuff safe.

My buddy and I catch and keep about 200 of the Community Day pokemon and trade them back and forth for lucky.

For Eevee community day on our first trade I figured we were going to start at the top so I put in a 834 Eevee in. It wasn't until after we traded that I noticed he was starting from the bottom and put a 178 Eevee in. And they happened to be lucky...
