what not to power up

I have just read the safest bets for Gen. 3 page and disagree with some of its points, but that's a topic for another thread. I was wondering if there are any pokemon that I shouldn't put dust into as they will have there roles replaced

Ice type pokemons have very good potentials, since we are having a lot of good dragon pokemons (including legionaries) . They will be very useful in both raid battle and to take down gyms. So articuno and lapras...

Actually Walrein in gen3 has the potential to be better than lapras and articuno. Also Articuno is much more expensive to power up if you don't have any candies left. If you consider that ice pokemon have no real use right now the 'safest bet' would be to wait.

Articuno is be the best ice attacker even with gen 4 and it is a safe bet right now. I didnt check gen 5 and onward. Back to walrein, just check his stats. He will be weaker attacker than articuno because of his lower atk stat. Another thing is his typing. You want to use ice against grass, ground, dragon and flying, right?Ice/water type (same as lapras) gives walrein disadvantage against grass pokemons. Another thing articuno has more protection vs ground and they both dont have type coverage when fighting dragon and flying (but +10 in atk stat for articuno). Summary: Articuno ftw

edit: I am Mystic player and I have 100 iv artiuno LOL :)

You're right but I can't imagine it will be the best ice type when gen 4 is out. There are going to be many good options: Mamoswine, Glaceon, Weavile, Abomnasnow and Froslass. And Kyurem in Gen 5 will definitely be a better attacker.

We don't know gen 4 stats yet but i have checked their types. Abomasnow (weak vs flying) and mamoswine (weak vs grass and no protection vs ground) have bad type coverage. Dark type won't give weavile any protection vs grass, ground, dragon and flying. Froslass and glaceon the same. I think that stats will be crucial here. Articuno is defending pokemon but he has good typing.

edit: Regice is very interesting too. He is much more bulky than articuno but has lower atk and no type coverage. I don't know if it will be worth to power him up because we won't be able to use him as a defender. I would spend my dust on 100 iv only :)

I wouldn't power up defensive mon until the meta changes.

- Snorlax: Lets see how overpower Slaking is going to be...
- Vaporeon/suicune: If Kyogre comes with quick and charge water moves, this guys would going to be totally surpassed
- Rhydon: Same Kyogre thing but with Groundon
- Articuno: Regice has lots more stats, despite articuno has some little higher attack.

Even though, this doesn't mean you shouldn't invest in any of this mons, i guess there is no fun in just follow the meta that hard.
