What might be the best way to introduce Mewtwo?

When looking at the preliminary stats it screams "overpowered". If it is introduces in a way that everyone rather easily could get one and power it up, then I guess the gym-meta would only revolve around Mewtwo. Today we at least have some balance between a handfull of mons.

If it gets extremely rare, then it would cause a lot grief among players mostly interested in completing their dex.

Maybe a middle way would make it easy to obtain. Do some X, Y and Z of different things, typically taking a month for lvl 30 player. Then you get a level 1 Mewtwo. If you are not satisfied with the moves, repeat.

Then to get candy you have to walk say 7 or 10 km. This will make it possible for almost everyone to get one, but only very few will get one to its full power.

Any other ideas how to make a good introduction of this particular mon?

As soon as the clock strikes midnight on NYE then Mewtwo appears wherever you are in the world.

You use 6 of your best Mons to beat him and if you do, you can catch him.

However Mew2 is not allowed in regular gyms because he is more powerful than the others.

I like this idea but not the gym one, I don't want to have a mewtwo just as a trophy, want to use him on the only battles I can now, gym battles.

About the capture I would make it a bit more difficult, you can use your 6 best mons to try to defeat him but if you don't dodge properly any of his attacks will take off 50% of the health of you mon, so 2 miss dodges and your mon faints.

Of course after you defeat him you have one try to catch him, you can get a master ball doing the daily bonuses during 60 days before its release, if you miss you have to wait another 60 days to try to get.

I like the idea of being level 1 and walk 7km per candy.

Good idea!
Sudden suggestions for those actions:

  • Hatch 100km-Egg.
  • Faint 100 3000CP-Pokemon
  • Complete Pokedex (except regionals)

I heard a rumor that legendaries would be unlocked at a L10 gym where all trainers are L30 or above. Absolutely no idea if this is credible. I heard it from a trainer who claimed to know someone at Niantic.

The best answers for the gym problems that I have heard:
- Only one of each legendary allowed in a gym. (Prevent the one best legendary pokemon from dominating gyms.)
- Each player can place only one of each legendary pokemon in any gyms. (Minimize the need to farm for multiples by preventing one player from placing 10 Mewtwos in different gyms.)
- Only one legendary can be placed into a Lv0-5 gym; two can be placed in a Lv6-9 gym; three can be placed in a Lv10 gym. (Future proofing for when there are much more legendary pokemon.)
- When battling a gym, you can only have one of each legendary in your lineup, and a maximum of three legendaries total. (Just for symmetry.)

I don't think Mewtwo should be allowed to be used as a defender because it makes every other Pokémon irrelevant and trust me people will be upset about it.

I like the battle idea, I would love to take down Mewtwo with my Army of Grass-Pokémon...just kidding, but really it would be an amazing idea in my opinion.

Most likely it would be possible to have only one MewTwo per player, so it wouldn't really make a big troubles in gym play. And while several players combined efforts can make some gyms with a bunch of Mewtwo, there would be not enough of them to populate all gyms.

Anyway, with currend gym system even MewTwo would be no challenge for attacker. I'm quite confident you could beat it with Vaporeon similar lvl without losing even 2\3 of attacker HP. And Vaporeon just an example, other good attackers like Dragonite or other strong one will do the job also.

Like currently 1 to 1 good attacker will always beat defender. Any of it. And you have 6 attackers. So nothing to worry, legendaries by themselves wouldn't break the game even if they would be avaliable in masses.
