What Have You Maxed for "Fun?"

By now most active participants (whether you post or not) on this forum know what the power pokes are and what the "smart" investments in candy and dust are. But have you made any non-optimal investments in Pokemon just because you like them for whatever reason? If so, what's their story?

Some players might define "fun" as being as effective as possible--which doesn't leave much room for frivolous spending. That's a valid approach, but I'm speaking more to those who have spent resources on "non-power Pokemon" just because you like them or they're rare and you enjoy showing them off.

For the purposes of this discussion, most of us here can intuit which species qualify. For instance, I would argue that even though it's a Legendary, Suicune would count as a "fun" max-out but Articuno wouldn't (even though the blue bird isn't the most powerful legendary, it certainly has its uses). Here are mine:

* 2683 Muk (PJ/GS): Heapotrouble
Such a cool Pokemon! I even wrote a story about it slithering around town sliming everything and posted it to my town's group forum. I think I might eventually write a little story about each of these. Here's his:

*****Behold! The mythical Heapotrouble! This cankerous creature emerges from the fetid fields of the dreaded Corpulent Schism to haunt our material plane. Legend has it that if you do not leave the lid of your curbside garbage can slightly ajar to appease its unsavory appetites, it will seethe through the cracks in your door frame while you sleep to smear your home in garbage-spawned gore that resists all efforts to remove it! Beware! Despair! For Heapotrouble will soon be appearing to slime the streets of Johnson City...and your favorite hangouts.*****

* 2463 Slowbro (C/IB): Floe Bro
Before Dark types and good Electrics, this was an incredibly annoying defender. After raids started and I finally met my Red nemesis (who is actually really cool), he told me he had come to hate Floe Bro with a passion! That alone made it worth it the investment.

* 2406 Steelix (DT/C): Seismoid
I love seeing him tower over gyms and bite at things with his boxy little mouth.

* 2435 Poliwrath (B/S): Sub Mitts
I decided not to change Submission to Dynamic Punch because then I'd have to change his name! And that simply won't do. This little angry frog was a terror back when Bubble was monstrous. He still puts in work when a gym's sequence of defenders is just right.

Next candidate is a 100% VS/ZC Ampharos. I've got enough candy to do it, but haven't brought myself to pull the trigger. If they ever tweak the gym system, it's going up.

You're up!

He clearly made a distinction between "fun" and "extremely valuable." A perfect Machamp in no way fits in the "fun" category as defined by OP

I intend to power up every 100% Pokemon I encounter regardless of strength

I'm most proud of my Lv40 100% Aerodactyle

Not exactly sure just how valuable they are (aside for being good Machamp boss counters) but... Xatus. I got a male/female pair of 100% Xatus. Maxed one out for current level, now working on maxing the other out too, as he has flying moveset.
I'll have to give the female a flying/psychic moveset, as she currently has Ominous Wind for charge move. But waiting until I get a second CTM, keeping this one for a top 100% mon.

Also, the male is called Cherokee, while the female is Satu.

I haven't put any dust into her, but I have a 98% Wobbuffet from an egg hatch which is fun to put into gyms. I have used her to take down gyms, and she has over 500 battles won. But really she is a wimp with 235 HP. Her 577 CP goes down very slowly in a gym.

Recently on a windy day I caught a level 33 Wobbuffet with CP 890. He is slightly harder to take down, but is sadly, male. No lipstick!

My stardust is too precious to waste maxing out anything "for fun". If I did have dust to spare, I'd max out a Wobbuffet, just because they look ridiculous.

My perfect Blastoise. Was actually less than half the CP of my 98% one before I maxed it out.

This was basically my way of playing the game in the previous meta. Always satisfying having an atypical pokemon with a high CP in a gym. Sort of paying for it now haha but here's a list of some I've maxed:

Muk
Charizard
Taurus (I'm from Aus so you see the appeal)
Poliwrath
Cloyster
Omastar
Vileplume
Ampharos

Like midnightlotus im also planning on maxing 100%s. The more unusual ones include a skarmory a seaking a lanturn a starmie and a xatu. Besides that im gonna max a charizard 87% which is the second oldest mon i have and was caught in the vacation spot i was staying when i started playing pogo. Im also planning on maxing a nidoking as an homenage to how that mon helped me steam roll thru lots of early games in the original gameboy games. Also a venusaur because he is my favorite mon and the maybe list includes a donphan, ursaring, pinsir, slowbro, hitmonlee, tangela and meganium (they are some of my favorite mons). Gotta pop them star pieces like crazy xD

My current project: my 96% Milotic I evolved today.

A Charizard if I ever get a perfect one.

I can’t personally set a goal of every 100% cause I have a perfect level 5 Ratatta daring me.

Guess it's this guy. I know gyarados is a competitive pokemon nowadays with the right moves but he's my first 100 and before the appraisal era (I had to manually input stats into a copied Google sheet). Now it also has a cross generational legacy set as well.

Me too. Gary is my first perfect Mon which have B/HP in gen 1. Though people often say vaporeon is better than Gary, I enjoyed maxing it all along. Now it got wf/hp at L40.

I powered up 5 Blisseys to 39 so the other teams can have “fun” with them

I powered up 3 Blissesy and 6 Snorlax's so the blue team and yellow team can have fun take those tanks down in gyms lol

I'd say a powering up a 100% IV Arcanine, after he became irrelevant.

My first 3 shiny gyarados, caught during the water event. They stay in gyms .... they seem to encourage rivals to attack (see red, LOL) and give me my coins. I'm really not into showing off (seriously), but there's just something about their rarity (even in the city where I work I have seen very few red gyarados).

P.S. I have another shiny gary and another shiny karp... can't max them yet for lack of candy ;)
