What do you think of gen3?

It seems like, aside from some of the legendaries (Groudon, kyogre) that gen3 is very lackluster in terms of useful Pokémon’s.

Slaking: Useless
Salamence: Will be underwhelming
Rayquaza: Nerfed, a glorified Dragonite.

The most relevant mon since gen3 release, Gyarados, is a gen1.

The only top tier gen3 non-legendary mon, then, is Metagross.

And even Metagross wont be comparable to how Dragonite or Tyranitar was when they were released, people were hunting down Dratini and Larvitar like crazy.

Is gen3 as disappointing to you guys as it is to me?

Not at all ! Since I have invested so heavily in Gen 1 and 2, much prefer some breathing room until Gen 4 comes out.

Give Gardevoir a quick fairy move and watch it own fighting types.
Is Beldum even in the game though?
And I wasn't too hyped for gen 3 as I'm actually waiting for Gen 4 to get evolutions for some other mons including Murkrow.

It already owns fighting types since it has Confusion which is also super effective.

Fairy gives it an advantage against dragon and dark types, though it's psychic typing will probably mean that fighting types are still going to be the best choice against darks.

Also double resistance to fighting moves. Not that I have one (and espeons are so easy to get) but it'd probably be a more than worthy addition to a Machamp raid team, providing the champ doesn't have double steel moves.

Gardevoir is a very powerful mon that you didn't even list. Salamence and Metagross aren't even released yet, so to comment on how effective they will be is a bit silly. Slaking may not be as good as Blissey, but he is hardly "useless". Groudon is a solid legendary, and is arguably better than Golem. Breloom and Hariyama are both underrated pokemon. Some of the top defenders are weak to fighting, and generation 3 released an enormous abundance of new fighting pokemon, which adds to the variety of the game overall. Generation 3 is awesome so far!

All the stats are already there so it’s easy to see how effective say, Salamence and Metagross will be, once released.

Pokebattler has Gardevoir ranked 10th as a Latios counter, hardly a world beater and with it lacking a quick Fairy move it won’t make much headway.

Machamp is still the champ of Fighting mons and Excecutor is still the top grass mon.

If you are looking for reasons to power something up, they might be there but objectively this is not the case.

Speaking from strictly a utilitarian point of view, Gen3 doesn’t offer much aside from Groudon, Kyogre and some new dragons, several of which won’t be any better than Dragonite.

are you looking for power creep to make all the gen 1 and gen 2 mons outdated? I'm not.

Of course pokemon like Gardevoir and Metagross won't be hunted like Dragonite and Tyranitar because now we have some strong generalist options, since those were released first. However, both are really good options when you need a fairy type attacker (or defense against fighting types) or, in Metagross case, solid defense and steel-type power.

I wouldn't dare say you're playing the game wrong (by focusing only on exclusively powering up the very BEST of each type, even if it makes them only marginally better than the second, third, etc), but you're definitely playing in a way that is evidently sucking the fun away from the game for you. With that mindset, I'm afraid to tell you that you've probably already reached the max potential of what is offered by PoGo regarding gameplay if you already have a couple of Dragonites, Tyranitars, Exeggutors, and Garys. Without abilities introduced, the game will forever be dependant on stats and movesets only and this situation will not change for a long time. If that's all that you want to focus on, then none of the future gens will make much of a difference for you, except for one or two mons on each. In the main series games, Pokemon weren't added to disrupt the meta from the previous gens, they were designed specifically to challenge it and balance it away from OP types and species. That means that newly-added species couldn't be TOO strong when compared to old gens in order to maintain a balance, and, as such, their stats couldn't be too overwhelmingly powerful.
Dunno what else to add, the game is what it is and the stats for each species have already been determined all the way up to gen 7, so there's not much to do for players like you until megaevolutions are introduced (if the game even makes it that far). I'd suggest switching your goals into collecting for variety and not focusing exclusively on the marginally best pokemon for each type if you plan to keep enjoying the game in the future and not become another Harrytipper2, so dried up of happiness in life and so devoid of purpose that you'll spend the rest of your scarce free time dumptalking down a mobile game that has disappointed you for approaching it with such mindset and unrealistic expectations.

Player's choice whether they want to play Pokémon Walk or Pokémon Drive. If you drive, then catching level 35 gen 1 and 2 100%'s will surely nerf any and everything.

Sometimes it's not player's choice to play "walk" or "drive". When playing in Hong Kong, I used to walk at least 10km daily, and spinned 50 stops to collect balls and other items. Since moving to Vancouver, stops are so far apart which force me to drive around in order to get enough supplements.

Hi Bobby,

TL;DR - I have a feeling in the future these pokemon will be better represented once/if abilities are incorporated and/or when evolutions are incorporated (gen 6)

To me it is not disappointing. Question (and I don't mean this is any 'negative' sense): have you played the main series? Slaking in the main series was meant to be underwhelming. It has hella base stats but in the main series it can potentially be rendered as essentially useless if the trainer's pokemon that is attacking slaking has a variety of moves, including but not limited to: protect, endure, substitute, dig, fly, etc. I was not expecting Slaking to be 'all that' having known that he was trash in the main series games.

What I like about this generation is the plethora of pokemon (albeit they may not have THE highest cp) that are dual typing AND have access to STAB movesets of either type. Some of these include: Swampert, Blaziken, Shiftry, Ludicolo, Sharpedo, Flygon, Whiscash, Cacturne, Crawdaunt, Walrein, Metagross, and I am sure there are more.

Some of these pokemon may not be the highest DPS of their typing, but I value pokemon more so than just being a leader in DPS. For example, I have been really liking sceptile because even though it is not the highest DPS currently (at least I do not think it is), Fury Cutter + Leaf Blade is a relatively fun moveset, in my opinion. Another example is swampert: even though swampert takes double super effective damage from grass types, it's resistance to electric (a combination of immunity * super effectiveness) is certainly an advantage over its pure water counterparts

What I am hoping for is a reworked battle system. As some media figures within the pokemon go community have voiced before, this generation of pokemon rely heavily on their abilities. Shedinja with a base 2 hp that is immune to attacks that aren't super effective; Ninjask's speed boost could be baton pass'd to a pokemon with low speed to make it faster, Pelipper's ability drizzle which forces rain to take place when it enters the battle & likewise Torkoal's ability drought which does the same thing as pelipper's except forces sunny/clear weather. Milotic is awesome because it becomes much bulkier when it is status'd (especially when coupled with moves that allow it to periodically fully heal and attack while asleep), Medicham's ability double's it base attack stat etc.

And then there are pokemon that have Mega evolutions which we shall hopefully see by the time Generation 6 rolls around lol - absol, sharpedo, sharpedo, medicham, manectric, aggron, metagross, salamence, etc. all have great mega evolutions.

I'm not disappointed ^^

My main disappointment with Gen 3 as it has been revealed are the move allocations. Maybe there will be moves added, as we've only received a portion of the generation thus far, but if not, we're in for a lot of duplicate move sets compared with what we already have.

Experiential stagnation is not a good thing.

Gardevoir looks really cool; I'm excited about her, but Niantic still hasn't solved the problem of the Fairy quick move. I was excited about Metagross until I saw its moves (Bullet Punch and Zen Headbutt are a snore-fest; the one Steel charge move is underwhelming). Groudon and Kyogre need their signature moves to avoid being better users of one-bar charge moves we've been saddled with since the game launched.

Upon seeing the homogeneity, I finally maxed out Entei, Articuno, and Muk to create a little of my own variety. Because from what I've seen, this generation isn't going to deliver it.

(Except Jirachi and Doom Desire. That may be the one I'm most excited about. But even then, what are the quick moves? Confusion and Charge Beam. The SAME combination as another G3 heavy-hitter, Gardevoir. Awful.)

I like the Brelooms I've been getting, it's nice to finally get some more fighting types. Wild Machops are essentially non-existent, and every raid I do gives me a Machamp that never has Dynamic Punch, with stats too low to be worth TMs, especially since when I do TM them, they just bounce back and forth between Heavy Slam and Close Combat every time. So even after all this time with Machamp raids, the best I have are still only three at level 30, all around 84% IVs and 11 attack, Dynamic Punch only for one of them.

Yet after just a few days of clear weather for gen 3, I already have multiple level 34 or 35 Brelooms (one of them 93%) with Dynamic Punch, and I only had to spend one TM and some candy to get them.

Aerilate with Return / Double Edge makes me shiver

And if there's a dragon dance or a prior moxie boost in there too, gg

I'm not disappointed. As i hardly log in i don't care :P

In answer to your point, future generations won't offer much more than we have in terms of the meta, until they bother to expand the one dimensional tap tap tap gameplay we have now. A Pokemon like slaking cannot work as it does in the game while GO continues in this current 1D framework.

So you've probably reached the point where the game is interesting to you. I reached that point a while ago. welcome to the club bro!

I felt the same about Gen 2 when it was originally released.

Blissey and Tyranitar shook up the metagame for the worse (towards CP creep), with other Gen 2 species pretty much irrelevant compared to Dragonite, Gyarados, Vaporeon, Rhydon and Blissey attackers like Machamp, Exeggutor and Flareon (Heracross does not exist for me).

I miss the Gen 1 meta. Remember when Poliwrath, Venusaur and Wigglytuff were good defenders, while Arcanine was a top generalist attacker? Prestiging made many more species (even Parasect) relevant.

From reading these comments, it sounds like there's a consensus among players that, despite Niantic introducing new weather/AR features to catch Pokemon, what players really want is a change in the battle system. Namely, introducing PvP, and abilities.
I've read that some players like to Max some less efficient Pokemon just for fun, it battling coolness. Kind of disappointing Niantic isn't focusing on battling, it's been really neglected and needs an overhaul. Just as soon as gen3 is done being released.

The pokemon in Gen iii must have the worst conceived movesets ever. I'm not kidding. It's even more ridiculous than the Gen ii movesets, which were actually very consistent.

Also some pokemon are very very rare outside of their weather and it hurts to have the strongest pokemon go outside of the 3 weathers you have.
