What did just happen?

Today I was in a battle against an alolan marowak with my rhyperior, I used stone edge and it said ''not very effective''. I assume this is a mistake of the game.

I had the same kinda thing, I was battling an Alolan Ninetails with a Fire type, with both fire moves, and it said "Not very effective"

Sounds in both cases like the game is defaulting to the base typing for weakness/resistance, not the typing of the Alolan form. I'd recommend that both the posters above submit support tickets to Niantic. I'm sure they would want to hear about that bug.
