What is the best strategy for acquiring 7 km Aloan eggs?
GamePress (to whom I credit much of my understanding, though meager it may be, of Pokemon Go) advises that the Alolan form of four pokemon (Vulpix, Sandshrew, Meowth and Grimer) may be acquired through 7 KM eggs. So I am trying to figure out the best way of acquiring 7 KM eggs. GamePress does not say much about that.
Here is what I think may be the best strategy. I would appreciate the wisdom of this community to correct me or further inform me as appropriate.
1. Currently, 7km eggs can only be obtained by gifting from other players.
2. The gift may or may not include a 7km egg. The recipient of the gift will not know until the recipient opens the gift.
3. Wait until you hatch an egg. This results in an opening in your egg list.
4. Then, and only then, open your Gifts, one at a time while you observe whether any of the gifts include 7 km eggs. Consider stopping opening your gifts if one on them produces a 7 km egg until after you hatch that egg.
Pleas comment on all 4 points. I am not sure that I have it figured out correctly.

Well said. I did a controlled test this morning. I had one unused spot for an egg. I had five unopened gifts from friends. I carefully open them one at a time and checked my egg inventory each time to determine whether an egg had appeared in my egg inventory. The first four gifts resulted in no 7 km egg. The fifth gift showed a 7 km egg when the gift box opened and when I checked my egg inventory it was occupying the one previously empty spot.
